no matter where i am in station or Space
shift G = GUILDCHAT!
shift T = SECTOR chat!
g = groupchat!
t = channel!
a line starting with any chat selector also in stations should automatically switch to that chat!

twhat do you mean
gican't say I've had any problems with that
wc
wc
Only issue I can think of is, what if I want to start a line with a word starting with t,g,G or T?
eg: "There is no way I want this important message to be sent to the whole sector."

I rebound my chatkeys, are you trying to say they should be auto rebound in a station? thats not really do able.
26 chars lower and uppercase -> 4 out of 52
but it is much easier to get used to always specifying a target instead of consantly have to switch between space and station chat.
it would be consistent so easier to memorize.

What I would prefer is that the last type of chat I used while in space (ie, by hitting the default keys of t/T or g/G while flying but not with the PDA open) is what is selected when I next open the PDA or the station interface.
For example: I send several messages to 100, then chat with someone in sector just before I dock. if I click on the chat line (not the buttons at the top of the chat area), my text should be going to sector, not to 100.
Also, we have well more than 52 characters available for chat; any key that can be bound could be used as a key to open a chatline of a particular type. I myself use 6 keys for a variety of chat commands in space:
, (comma) - Channel chat
. (period) - Sector chat
< - Guild chat
> - Group chat
? - System chat
/ - open prompt line

no matter how you bound them. but it just can't be that in one state you are forced to click and in the other just the key does the trick. there has to be a way to make this consistent.
In station chat, type "/t <space>" to auto-switch to channel chat. Same goes for sector, group, and guild. Also, if you don't have the chatbox selected, you can press t, T, g, or G to select the chatbox and switch to that type of chat.
still it differs.
no matter how it differs, it does! and this sucks.
there is no sense in having diffrent ways to achieve one and the same thing and FORCE the user to remember at least two of them.
it is not like having a choice.. you are forced to use the keys in space and you are forced to use the other commands in the pda view.
no argument about having mutliple ways of accessing things but it must be open to the user to decide which of these ways is his/her preference and he/she will use...
i prefer the keys so why do i have to "suffer" from this inconsitency.

It will always differ unless the HUD chat is totally crippled. My advice: learn to get used to it. I haven't had an unintentional WC in a long time.
may be you are afk too much then :p
I used to be the second-most talkative person in VO or something, according to stats by FiReMaGe. :)
anyway does not change anything.
this is the suggestion forum.
for later GS is intrested to have the product look and feel thought of because it sells better ...
this chat thing is still annnoying me after my playtime and according to othr wc's i see i am not alone.
so pointing it out here is exactly the right thing to do.

IMO just having the colour of the text in the chatbox match the selected type of chat would be enough.
so at last you agree this issue would be worthy of improovement?
But we have a plugin that does what slime said.
Spuck wrote it. Should still be in the community projects forum.

Doesn't it have problems with the "/t <space>" things?
don't remember; I haven't used it in a long while.
boo ..another feature I never used or missed.
The plugin is way to messy already. It's probably possible to do the color thing without rebuilding the whole chat handler.

hey what about some dev comment on this?! this still SUCKS!
Could they maybe catch up after a few well-deserved days off?
