Thats probably the only one I don't like, only takes me about 6 hours to level an alt up for some newb impersonating :P

yoda, sorry, I seem to have missed your point?
It also takes less than 5 minutes to get the Basic Trader badge.
As long as there's no real benefit, the only reason to have that badge would be to see what the accomplishment screen is for.

Yoda: the "Fresh Pilot" one would only exist in new *accounts*, not on newly-created characters...
badges badges badges badges mushroom! mushroom!
sorry, yeah, I like these, some good ideas.

Re-posting suggestions for weekly awarded personal "transient" ribbons for those who earn most kills *using* certain ship/ammo
promjock, most prom kills
valkjock most valk kills
agt whore ribbon
missile spammer ribbon
Rails killer ribbon
Popcorn Nerde's ribbon
Oh, and shahid's belt for those who kill people by exploding
The only problem I see there is if I use the rails+flare setup, I will hardly earn either rail or flare user's ribbon

To lure Kixkizzle back from the heresy of WoW, we should have Tube racing badges (or singular, badge).
Also, this is a longshot seeing as the game doesn't record these but I'd love for Deneb Run medals :) One day.
Oh and yes, "Best Rocketeer". Over 1,000 kills with rockets. Another longshot, seeing as I dunno if the game records those or not.

All this stuff we would have to add the ability to record, so none would be retroactive. Aside from that, recording it isn't a big deal, that's part of what Ray has engineered in the last couple of months.
Stuff like the Deneb Run, which has no actual triggers in the game at present, is more problematic. But something I would like too (I think I mentioned it in a newspost awhile back).

Obvious and missing:
Most "Itani Kills" for Serco
Most "Serco Kills" for Itani
Additions:
Most valuable squad member PvP and Hive class. "Most kills while in a squad"
Most effective traders. Highest profit margin over the course of a week, minimum profit 1,000,000.
Guild badges.
Most of the listed badges could be assigned a model for guilds as well as players. So active guilds could try for and hold badges that have serious bragging rights.
Add in some war badges given to the players who participate in war missions, like the BP badge suggestion above, but more generalized.
Trophy Page:
Lists all past holders of badges and relevant stats for what was done to earn that badge.
I am guessing that there is intent to eventually lock access to specific items/weapons, to current holders of specific badges.
Am I correct?

"Recruit Badge" for players in their first 2 weeks inside a guild (at least)
Argh Snake, argh snake! Sssnaaake. Ssssnaaake. Ohhh, it's a snaaaaake...
"Snake" - Swap sides from Itani to Serco, or the other way around.
"Bandit" - Moth kills in nation space.
"Hobo" - Receive spare change a number of times, without ever '/givemoney'ing someone else.
"Kamakaze" Kill so many people with your explosion, or by ramming.
"Coward" Run from duels.
"Sharp shooter" One hit kill. (Basically, quad advanced rails I'm thinking...)
"Medic" Repair damage on alot of different ships.
"Don Quixote" Attempt to kill a Prom.

Tube racing badge! Yes!
In fact how about more comperhensive race tracking system? With weekly records, betting and such? That's more complicated probably tho :/
And if you really want a lot of badges then:
Most kills with specific weapon badge
and most kills with specific ship.

hmm the devs are going to have lots of funfunfunf making ribbonsribbonsribbons
I see a potential problem with the 'Pirate' badge. It greatly stymies cooperative mining, doing bulk-procurement with friends, and salvaging your cargo after you issue. A better prerequisite would be to only apply the counter when one sells cargo that was from a destroyed player or NPC (not Hive), -OR- was marked as 'stolen' when jettisoned, a property that would remain invisible until the item is sold.
vIsitor : I dunno if needing to record jettisoned cargo as stolen is needed, only person to EVER drop cargo for me (besides when folk get funny and drop 1cu of aquean ore) was in Beta, people just prefer to run or pay :)
Miharu : Thats my point, would allow for alt spotting...

The "Badge Badge" for the player with the most badges
Will: I think you mean "Christmas Tree" Badge. :P
Yeah, for the pirate badge I'd have it be some linear combination of:
Amount of Off-the-Books Money earned (Not through selling items):
Just take the amount of money a person has earned in a week, and subtract all their sales/missions. This MUST be income from other players.
---------------------------------------------
Number of Players Killed: (times some factor to compete with money)
----------------------------------------------
Amount of Stolen Cargo Sold: (times some factor...etc...)
------------------------------------------------
Range: the system could keep track of the number of the average range that the "pirate" travels in computing this badge.
----------------------------------------------------------
Based on a certain rating of each of these, it would give a certain additional rating:
=============================================================
Pirate Badge: Fence (High Levels of stolen cargo sold)
Pirate Badge: Cargo Smuggler (High levels of stolen cargo sold and Long Range travel)
Pirate Badge: Cutthroat (Large numbers of player kills)
Pirate Badge: Mercenary (Long range travel + Large Quantities of Off-the-Books money)
Pirate Badge: Assassin (Long range travel + large number of kills + Large quantities of off-the-books money)
Pirate Badge: Bandit (short range travel + large number of kills + Large quantities of off-the-books money)
Pirate Badge: Blakbeard (Top player in all-around rating)
