Station Fire!!!

The news reported a station fire today in Odia.

I think it would be great to actually see a fire when you travel there. It could burn for 24 hours or something. You can use the same particle effect as when your ship is at 5% and burning.

Think this is one of the small details that are pretty easy to implement and add to the feel of a living universe.

Lol! It would be hilarious when players own stations if components of their station sometimes caught fire and needed to be repaired afterwards.

30-40 players in their ships all just outside the station watching it burn...
A few shooting repair guns at it (trying to put the fire out).
Then that one fool that tries to fly into the fire to see if he/she gets hurt by the flames...

(who brought the smores...)

I HATE IT!!! I ABSOULUELY HATE IT!!! (only cause I forgot the smores I promised to bring :P)

Perhaps there will be a "fire control team" like the station guards, maybe in a differint ship like a centaur that shoots the station with repair guns or something like that.

Good idea, I hope everybody else goes for it.

station fires would be great, they are nice to see and add some depth to the game.

LOL just like SimCity, the stations will need an influx of credits or they run down. Docking bays need repair. Powerplants need upgrading, etc. Disasters strike randomly (Fire, Ion storms, reactor explosions, UFO swarms? Godzilla?)

That would be kinda neat. Reality ingame mirrors the news. Have the network of trade interfaced with the station's overall health. Very very cool.

I thought about suggesting that players could set fire to stations, but some players would go overboard and set fire to all the stations in existance :P

No, I would not like that, NO, I DID NOT suggest that.

This sort of adds to one of my "large thought bubbles of change" on how if all stations were larger, and there was a large amount of them in each sector. Destroying stations and setting fire to them would be alowed ingame to the state of how there are so many it dosn't really matter. That and how destroying a station would be a huge endeavor due to how all of the guard come out to kill you. To balance it out, all stations could have sections which could be set fire to and blown off.

Then again that would mean replacement modules and that would lead to bigger ships meaning more players of higher levels to finance the ships etc, etc, etc......

Thats just my thought. Although overall [APPROVED]

Erm, how bout when player owned stations come about, they are destructable, I don't want a serco strike force killing Coranis Watch or anything...

how about lets say that stations have "shields" that block energy weapons and rockets, but take immense damage from being rammed by a ship at a certain speed minimum (180?). if enough ships (and i mean a lot) ram the same section of the station, it gets engulfed in flames? And to stop people from going completely nuts with it, make it so that you lose 20 or something faction points on ramming it hard enough, as well as giving them temp KOS in case they didnt issue by ramming.

What if there was a scrolling bar along the bottom of the screen with the news events for that day? I'll post another suggestion thread on it...

this is pretty cool. ireally think that when they are player controlled (stations that is, not fires) YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO BUY (whoops, there i go again) droids, and the biggest guilds should become factions....

I like all of this, but lets make sure that I can still fly around the station and the sheild doesn't prevent me from flying in tight places around the stations, please!

guilds becoming factions? i am sure that that would be enough to make me leave the guild and never join one ever again.

Who? Me?, guilds shouldn't become factions for a couple of reasons.
1. Many guilds aren't even active
2. Guilds like [IDF] or [IA] are Itani, not a different faction (order of akan is different)
3. When a new player starts, it asks them to choose between serco, itani and UIT, not [IA], [SCAR] or [MP] (obviously not MP, it has one member...)

I know I went off track there, so I'll redeem myself.

If stations are going to have shilds, why cant we? (players)

bringing this one up as a reminder if you don't mind.

There was another post in the news today about a stationfire in Odia. Would be cool to actually see the fire commining out some windows and stuff.

You do know that the only way we can see a fire on the outside of the station is if the station is leaking oxygen. That stations going to empty out fast if the fire is a big as a camp fire. This is unrealistic

Maybe instead of a fire, there could be visible electric wires with visible electricity jumping between it.
