Overall, I think that most traffic on the message boards and the in-game chate kept to very good standards by the players.

I think we should continue to keep it clean. I would encourage players to strive to make their comments without using vulagr words. Now, I don't think I have to sink into an argument about what words I am talking of, I think it is clear. Particularly, when your attempt is to offend and flame another one should think twice.

I reccomend to the devs that they keep a closer watch on this topic. I point out, I have seen a least one offensive character name which.

I don't make this suggestion because I'm a prude; though I think it always requires more intellect to make your point without being offensive. But, when you finally decide that VO is ready for primetime it will be a lot easier to sell if it is clean and easy to sell to all people of all ages.

While I'm not so much a prude as a person attentive to the uses of language in general, I'm torn about the swearing I see on 100. I personally don't swear, though many of my friends do and it doesn't bother me. That's in places, however, where cursing is the common dialect.
Because Vendetta has a 13-year age limit, I do agree with the motion to clean it up. We have filters but, come one, who doesn't have the imagination to replace the aterisks with the desired word? Especially in flame wars and ego contests, ******* at the other person is just immature.

I'll admit to using a bit of suggestive humor here and there (though you usually have to think about it to get it). I'm not entirly sure where the guidelines are for this, since not everyone may get these jokes (specifically younger types), but I'm very willing to stop using innuendo as humor on 100 entirely if we side on the conservative side of this "gray line". If we're more on the liberal side, I'll consider innuendo a subtle tool of humor; fun to use every once and awhile. I wouldn't mind have some direction on this matter, though.

Also why such a fuss? Im 13 and in real life i keep cursing down to 1-2 words a day. But its kinda funny seeing how you adults act to a child saying those acursed words (Honestly, Almost every child has heard a curse word uttered in their lifetime as a child.).

Age has nothing to do with it. Inappropriate langauge is inappropriate.

Vendetta Online is game, it's supposed to be fun. Using foul langauge on the public channels of the game does not add to the fun, and for some people will detract greatly from the fun.

And the devs have done what they can to take care of it. But it's something that is completely out of their control. The chat filter is far from perfect, but there's really nothing more the devs can do. What they say is something that each individual player has sole control over, and therefore each individual player must take responsibility for what they say. Just because you aren't offended by the words you use, doesn't mean no one else would be offended. But you would be the person responsible for saying those words.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest, however there ARE younglings on these boards who may not understand what some of the "grownup" words mean. It may lead to an inability to enjoy the game to its fullest when some of those really mature players use "rougher" vocabulary to elucidate their opinions. Let's clean it up for the CHILDREN!

I agree in particular that "the constant trash-talking that annoys me" too. I do not feel that inuendo and somewhat risque humor is out of line as long as it is done with more intelligence than flame and vulgar words. To boil my thoughts on this down; this is a truly global game which I hope will attract people of all ages, sexes, and cultures-I think you should always try to behave in a way that though may be edgy but not truly offensive to someone with a completly different experience.

Monty Python's Flying Circus is full of risque humor and inuendo. I think most people will agree it is acceptable for public humor (though not all will agree it is humor)

I try to interact with people on the web as I would if I were talking to people in general public. To do otherwise, I believe, is cowardly.

As far as "the kiddies", So what if they are using those words. I used them occasionally at that age. But as the adults on the web, I think we have a responsibility to act as adults. We may not be there to police eachother, but to set a standard.

Anyway, what responsible parents will allow their kids on-line with VO if they see it is a vulgar or toxic community.

I agree. I was just kind of annoyed that Beolach was trying to act as if it is wrong and everything, this is no excuse but this is the INTERNET not the real world. You dont know if im 6 or 60. And yes you may say you treat people like you would treat someone in the real world. If your not saying it to look good then i commend you. We need more people like you.

Casual cursing is permitted mand is handled reasonably well by the filter. I'm not too concerned that people can guess what "****" could mean - if you're interested enough to decipher it, you might as well turn the filter off. I do wish that people would keep the cursing to a minimum, if only because it loses impact and meaning when overused. That and I have difficulty in not assuming that the speaker is an idiot - but that's my own personal shame to bear I guess.

Cursing at players, or exposing others to racial, ethnic, religious, or sexual slurs (did I miss any other types of slurs?) is never permitted. Violators will be politely reminded of this policy. Repeat violators will be temporarily muted. Flagrant repeat violators may be banned.

i think the real problem with the whole filter issue is that the filter can be esily fooled. personaly i wish people wouldn't try to fool the filter. those who wnat the filter off can turn it off, but those who want it in place shouldn't have to deal with people who think they are clever for putting a space in the middel of their profanity.

Personally, I warn players who do that oh so cleaver spacing and I have muted a few for continuing. The filter can not block everything and sometimes what it blocks is humorous. I usually forget about the filter until I try to type ****pit. LOL

I'm a supporter of free speech. However I would like to see civil behavior in certain places. In this case the general chat channels. People can follow what is appropriate and what isn't in various situations. For example I don't allow my students to swear in my presence. If they want to talk that way they'll have to do it someplace else.

I encourage players to choose another channel if they feel constrained by the chat filter. As you know in this game there are more than 500,000 other channels you could join with your friends and you can express yourself any way you want.

the problem is that the number of permiatations of creative filter ducking is so large.
for example "dog" can be writen "d0g", "D og", "d'og", "D o g"

and the mor of these are caught the more clever people can become about avoiding the filter.

Conversly if the filter picks up on too much it will filter words like massachusets because it contains a certain 3 letter combination.
