Bots that don't type-kill

I'm sure tired of of chatting in a relatively safe sector like 6 and having a bot shoot me down with red lasers as I slow down to finish my message before I jump. Obviously chatting should have no effect on other human players, but could the AI please not start an attack if the chat console is active? If they've already locked on to you, they should keep going, but there appear to be distinct 'idle' and 'attacking' modes, and it would reduce frustration and embarrassment if bots overlooked players while they chat.

Having been chatkilled countless times myself I just turbo away from all the action about 5000 kilometers or so and drift while chatting. This works only if you haven't engaged any bots. It seems they can't see you after about 3000 K. Generaly if you can't see any of them on radar then they can't see you. Only other thing I can suggest is chatting in sec 7 or your home sector.

5000 km? Eeee... I like that idea, Crater. I've been chatkilled tons of times also.

i hate it. exploitable. very, very exploitable. point to the wormhole you wanna go, hold onto tab, and hit tilda.

heh you're also forgetting that movement can be bound to mouse keys which are usable even with console open, so technically you're still able to move around while chatting

I have a sidewinder ff pro 2, but I find that I'm better with a mouse in Vendetta. It's great for Flight Sim 2002, though...

How is this supposed to work once we have a full game?

Are you supposed to be ignored by the AI pirates just because the console is opened?

If you are smuggling contraband, are the AI police bots supposed to ignore you if you are chatting while you do it?

If you blow up a trader in his home territory, are the AI security bots supposed to ignore you if you are chatting while you do it?

If you penetrate into hostile territory, are the AI military defenders supposed to ignore your presence if you are chatting?

If you have a negative reputation and in encroach on the AI merchat ship in lawless space, do you expect the AI merchant to not defend itself if you happen to have the console window open?

I think voice chat should some how be built in. But only allow teammates to use it. And be able to /ignore voice chat also.

Like I said, they should steal TeamSpeak. Somehow.

How about by going up to the TeamSpeak booth at E3 and saying "hey, we're working on a Mac/Win/Linux project, too. It's one that could greatly benefit from voice chat. Of course, a little extra publicity never hurt you, either. So whaddya say we discuss this further?"

How about locking out movement if you chat?
You can't move in FPSes like Q3A when you have chat open (and the chat icon visible) so why can't movement be locked down in Vendetta?

old thread bump.

We need bots that hover near you, just outside of weapons range, until they detect that you start chatting, at which point they then swoop in for the chat kill. We need several of these in B8, and many other sectors across the galaxy.

Guys, this is a 2003 topic... way before VoIP, turbo lock...

and anyone who thinks its safe to chat in the heat of combat must die many times to learn. Use VoIP, or lock turbo before typing.

I never saw a bot shoot me down with red lasers...

Let it Rest In Peace.

But it's amazing how pplz scream at me if I post a new topic on an old idea, but accept someone ressurect a whole pack of ancient posts quietly.
