Hi,
When I signed up in late 2004, there was an IRC bridge. Where did that go? Who was running it? If it's down because it has nowhere to run or noone to maintain it, I hereby offer CPU cycles and babysitting to get it back up.

Get in touch with FiReMaGe if you've got an X11 server he can run it on. He used to run it on a server provided by Asphy, but then Asphy moved & it never came back. http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/1/11230
The BLAK Hive also functions as an IRC relay, I believe, but it might be restricted to members of BLAK.

Thank you CygnusX, although I am working on (or was... break is over) ways to run Relay. Although, after my recent return (okay.. I'm actually hovering over Vendetta at all times but.. =P), I have noticed quite a bit of people wanting Relay back.
Well, I think I can just do what I did back in 2004. That is, running it for as much as possible with my own desktop computers. I suppose it may start being operational before the end of this week. My connection is not at all stable, but hey.. that's why I wrote auto-reconnect. If it's not up by the end of this month for odd reasons, I'll begin to consider more options.

At one point, UID was going to get IRC relay capabilities. I even started to write a Ruby->IRC interface library. But then I lost focus... I should go finish that (or see if anybody else ever wrote one).
I think I've seen a few Ruby->IRC projects out there.
Try: http://linuxbrit.co.uk/rbot/ or http://rubyforge.org/projects/rubirc/

Anyway, about the original relay. It's functional now at: irc.slashnet.org #vrelay
This requires an IRC client: http://www.vo-wiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=IRC
Outdated info: Currently, the bot will not give an updated active list and doesn't give an active list to players on the Vendetta server at all. This is because the graph script, which is what fetches the active players list for the bot, is not running on the same machine. I will do something about this later. For now, we have basic IRC <-> Vendetta functionality for all that play Vendetta. I will make a community projects thread for the Relay when I think it's proper.
Edit: Everything works now. That means the active command too.
In order to use it, you must register with slashnet's nickserv. Yes, it wants a valid email address. It'll email you the auth code. In addition to registering with nickserv, you must register with my bot.
On Vendetta:
/msg IRC register
On SlashNET:
/msg vo help
After completion of registering, you can get familiar with the commands of vendetta by doing the following on SlashNET:
/msg vo help
Yeah, it'll say something new and different.

It... LIVES!!!
Thanks, FiReMaGe!

woooooooooooooooooooooo ha!
But why oh why Odia M-14? I feel like Big Brother's watching me... <_< >_>
I forgot where it was when there were only nine sectors... and then when there were 18 sectors, it was in the dead center, sector 9. Usually it was quite populated if sector 7 didn't steal all the people. Sector 7 was a little skewed towards Itani though, so I kept it in sector 9, being the second most popular sector.
Then when it changed to 7860 sectors (minus a few sun sectors), I had to choose a new place for it. There was also no global chat at the time, so I had to choose a place that would get the most local chat and was open to all nations. Odia M-14 had the best items on sale for any nation, so I thought it would probably end up being a popular place. For those reasons, I put it there. Odia M-14 is somewhat a center too.
Then the bot was no longer able to stay online because x.org was unstable on Asphy's machine. Makchuga moved to Odia M-14... and well, I had always planned to put my bot back online.

Hmmm... maybe we can put that IRC bot to work for the bar for free...
Nice to see IRC back :)
There is one tiny thing to correct though: after registering in-game, vo writes "Now type '/msg vendetta help' for a new set of help." - should be '/msg vo help'.

Ah, I thought I made it based on the nick. Well, now it is.
The link doesn't work for me, could you post a clickable URl please with http:// and all the formalities please?
It's a server address, not a link. You need an IRC client.

Thanks firemage
sorry to be so annoying about this but do ya know when it will be working with the new client?
Soon (TM)
It will work before the end of April. I know that is a very late estimation... I could predict a day even closer to now like sometime next week but problems just keep coming up.
Edit: It's back up for now.

I don't suppose an aspiring VORuby programmer could get some hints on how you're interacting with the client? Still the old way, or the new LUA-fied way?
