I've posted this on the ASW boards already, and felt i should share with you as well.
My parents left me alone today, and i got bored rather quickly. Seeing as i am going to be alone for hours now, i am doing what every red blooded american child should get to do some time during their life. Make things that explode. Forgive the crappy quality, i'm using a scanner to take these because i dont have a camera. And no, i didn't blow it up, i'm too lazy to buy 1. I'll take before and after pictures soon.
This is an "after" pic of a 243 shell i filled with powder, packed it down, then blew up. Notice the defority near the top...

Another rifle shell, filled with powder. Seems i've done this 1 before, notice the deformity? this one could really crack.

Oh yeah.. definently done this 1 before. Notice the stuff on the inside. That's hotglue and paper towel. I use the hotglue to try and seal up the shell so there is more pressure. i use the papertowel to pack down the powder.

i made the mistake of not doing a before scan on this one, because i figured it wouldn't do anything interesting.. i was way wrong.I wont make that mistake again. This one was very loud, and did the most damage yet.

Yay! here's another one.

I was disapointed. It made lot of noise, but didn't shatter. Oh well. Maybe i'll load it up again.

You know, over here you'd get in jail for that.
You're a bloody loony...
Keep doing it! But, BIGGER.
Lemming, i'm working on that. :) The problem is finding a container that will explode, but with force. Plastic = too weak
Urza your going about it all wrong. Blowing stuff up is easy using black powder, you ought to be looking at alternative materials........
custard powder ( HONEST! )
baking soda + *cough*
awwww hell just try a few different things.

Actually, pretty much any fine powder should combust quite well... Oh, and get some thermite!
pyro, i've had some for years, just need to steal some magnesium
you want the magnesium to light it right?
you can use sparklers I'm told to light the thermite... or was it sparklers to light the magnesium to light the thermite.. oh well, who knows...

they stopped making magnesium based sparklers if i'm correct
Am I the only one who thinks this thread should be locked and deleted? For christ' sake stop playing with gunpowder. Life really sucks if you have no fingers no more.
Leave us pyros alone doing our pyro activities.
Gun pouder explodes realy nicly...got a friend who made some fireworks with it:)
Gun powder burns. Black powder explodes. There is a difference. :p
As for the person who said this thread should be locked.. Honestly. Get a life. Go blow something up.

coffeemate.
the residents of east campus made the exploding flame more than 5 stories tall... there's a video clip online (/me gets it)
Before explosion:

Urza, if you let the gunpouder burn while in presure, surprise surprise, it will explode. :P
Boys and blowing things up. And knowing what's best to blow up, what produces bigger bangs, and various ways to make various objects to explode.
/me rolls her eyes.
... fun!

Nah, the fun part is experimenting and seeing what you can do... Ever seen a homebrew capacitor array put holes in pennies?
remember not to wire those electrolitic capacitors backwards Pyro.......
Yes, the pressure resulting from the burning powder causes an explosion, but the powder itself burns. Black powder will explode all by itself when you light it.
