The lan demos don't work anymore for lunix or Mac OS X so I tried to rebuild them, first on Mac which was cancelled because there is too much deprecated carbon shit in there then on lunix which worked like a charm
Can any other lunix people tell me if this works: http://spenced.com/~spencep/parsec/parsectest.tar.gz
it was built on ubuntu so it will probably function on those but if there are any other dists that work I'd like to know

I tried running this but i need to build some lib32 SDL stuff first.
I've taken this a step further
I have:
- a linux client
- A Mac X11 client
- A running Server
- Added the ability to join the server to the client codebase
http://spenced.com/~spencep/parsec/parsec-linux-net-alpha.tar.gz
http://spenced.com/~spencep/parsec/parsec-macx11-net-alpha.zip
If you manage to get the client to run enter the console with the ` key and type
net.server 212.13.194.182
Extreme work in progress warning! but you should be able to shoot someone with lasers and fly around

Now you can also:
- shoot rockets and someone, and fly around
- Listen to the good ol Parsec music again
- Took out all the broken junk in the menu
I have also separated data from binaries to prevent unneeded downloads
http://spenced.com/~spencep/parsec/parsecdata.zip
http://spenced.com/~spencep/parsec/parsec-linux-bin.zip

Spacequake!
It's fun :)

New binaries, Homing missiles now work and the mac binary comes with the required libs
It doesn't like me. Gives the following when I run it. Tried windowed mode in case it just didn't like my giant dualscreen resolution: no difference. I do of course have a working opengl installation, which I just double-checked in case the system update I did this morning broke it. I'm using Linux.

Using the OpenGL subsystem as rendering device.
Using XFree86-VidModeExtension 2.2.
Not a single suitable video mode could be initialized.
Sorry, but PARSEC is not able to run under these circumstances.
Parsec error exit: Unable to set video mode.

Neat, what resolution did you try, this is old and i think the highest it can do for X is 1152xsomethingrelativetothat
At least that's the best choice it gave me on ubuntu
The entire UI is being redone in SDL to fix all the outdated windows/linux/mac UI stuff but in the meantime I'd still like to see if we can get you running.
On mac it can't find any vidmodes and defaults to 640x480 I wonder why yours didn't do that

3600 x 1080. The funny thing is that I also tried using the --vidmode option to define an easy 800x600x32 in conjunction with window mode, and it still failed.
Are you using nvidia's proprietary driver TwinView feature?
Yes.
New binaries out, these ones fix server side prox mines
Oh and the server changed too: spenced.com

Try turning TwinView off and see if it still does it. I've seen that break some things before.
or add some old fashioned xfree86 style mode lines to your org.conf
I've seen that mentioned before on Google so similar issues

don't use a mouse. that's cheating!
