I'd couple this with the Sony article as it is more or less a stupid piece of shiat.

Yes, and I like Apple, but this is absolutely stupid.

The more polished the Onion's presentation, the less people "get" it. Comic gold.

That is hilarious! And almost plausible, considering the stupid new iPod Shuffle, with no buttons!

The intuitive sentence feature is the best. "I'll buy almost anything if it's shiny and made by Apple!" That is almost true for me, but only because I've come to trust Apple products.... this is too funny!

Good stuff. But going after the battery was kind of a dick move... we've got EIGHT HOURS now! [GOB] Come on! [/GOB]

lol i seen this before but lol.

And I have a friend with a 1 month old macbook pro he gets about 3.5 hours of bat before he is forced to recharge. I can get 7 to 9 hours on my asus eee pc 1000he.

Hmm, when I unplug my super awesome mega PC box that can run Crysis at max settings on 2 30" screens at once it turns off. Am I doing something wrong? Why don't I get any battery power?

8 hour charge is only available for the 17" macbook pro. I still haven't decided if it was worth the $4300.

I don't think 8 hours alone is worth the extra, but after using both a 15" and a 17" regularly I've come to greatly appreciate the extra two inches. Combined with all the other benefits, I think they add up to make it worth it.

Lord~spidey: I didn't mean to imply apple didn't make great computers. they do. But my friend at school is always hogging the plug. With everything on full and not in power saving mode he can barely last through one 2 hour class without needing a charge.

Maybe macbooks are good for limited portable use. But the asus eee pcs rock when you are in school from 10am to 7pm. I might need to charge up once during that period but he might have to do it 3 times or buy some extra batteries.

smittens: Don't you find it unwieldy? It's what makes me shun the 17-inchers, although I can understand the added comfort of another 2".
Apr 28, 2009 Professor Chaos link
That's part of why the only 17-incher I would want would have to be a MacBook Pro. The only "unwieldy" dimension is the 17 inches, made up for by the one inch thickness. I just wish they'd splurged on a number pad with the keyboard instead of rows of little speakers, but I can live with it. I just can't afford it yet.

If you don't max out the RAM, it's only 3500 or so.

Also: I've come to greatly appreciate the extra two inches

I am shocked beyond words that Leber hasn't called Smittens out on this in some way.

Yeah, maxing the RAM is expensive still for those. My ideal configuration is about $3500, so probably same as what you're talking about. Still a bit out of my price range for the next few years.

It's cheaper to go with the lowest amount of RAM possible when ordering from the Apple store, and then buy what you need from somewhere else (as long as you make sure to get the right type).
