Lemming and I had a chat about that:
(3:27:02 PM) Lemming: i just don't get it, why did apple make safari for windows?
(3:27:36 PM) Konata: Programmahs need to get paid, yo
(3:27:54 PM) Lemming: but but but, IT MAKES NO SENSE
(3:28:12 PM) Lemming: firefox users love their addons
(3:28:22 PM) Lemming: and IE users are mostly too stupid to use anything else
(3:28:26 PM) Konata: Put the crappy programmers on safari for windows so they stop bothering the good ones?
(3:28:52 PM) Lemming: you could just, like, fire them.
(3:29:11 PM) Konata: Not if they're banging your daughter

Edit: THERE IS NO LAST LINE. Or rather, I copied too far. Oops.

The last line was about their "solution" to developing applications for the iPhone, which was to just make web applications.
Edit: There was a last line, but then someone edited it out!

It's an attempt to make Win/Web developers not to have an excuse to leave WebKit-enabled browsers behind in terms of support. there really is no reason for some web sites not to work on Macs (and Linux using khtml kit upon which webkit is based--apple's a big supporter of kthml).

also, by having more web sites webkit -enabled ensures even greater support for iphone users. many of wich will be windows users and using their iphone to get access to their typical windows-centric (or windows-only) web sites.

as far as a mac desktop programmer are concerned (such as me), we couldn't care less if safari was on windows or gained more market share. it wont give me any more job. and it's even one app less of a reason to switch to mac. but it'll give better market penetration to iphone--apple's next major swing in getting more windows convert as the ipod/itunes was.

oh. and just to give a "me too" note to this reply, i too am writing this from san francisco, through safari 3.0 on leopard 9a466 (prfltflt!).

I'm amazed it can connect to a network at all, what with all the pain in assholes I heard of with it's TCP/IP stack. But that was three months ago.

I for one, tried it and immediately trashed it. I used Firefox on a Mac and will continue to do so on Windows. Yavol!

They'd first fire him, then sue him, then get medieval on his ass. Perhaps in a different order, but the general concept would stay the same.

(provided you didn't mean this as a joke. I thought it was)

wm, do you think that Apple would let slide a leak of a product as important as Leopard? Don't you think they'd try to find out who leaked it, and that they probably could find out?

I guess uppercase would have to tell us if they could, though, since he's working on it.
