Traders VS. Pirates Event (Work in Progress)

What I want to do is host a Nation War-ish event, but in this case it'll be Traders against Pirates.
You don't have to be either a pirate or a trader specifically to participate.

Way teams will be decided:

Obvious pirates will be on the pirate team, obvious traders will be on the trader team.

Traits that make a person an obvious pirate:
Triple KOS standing with the 3 nations.
Membership in a guild with a high focus on piracy/privateering.

Traits that make a person an obvious trader:
Triple POS standing with the 3 nations.
Membership in a guild with a high focus on trading/mining.

Less obvious people will be used to fill the teams in a way that will best balance the teams numerically. If you want to secure your position as a trader/pirate, you'll have to work harder to make yourself fit the category better.

Teams will be decided 30 minutes before the event starts. I will announce a sector for participants to show up and be counted, team rosters will final after this and will not be changed.

Otherwise, the rules are simple:

Only those who are on-time are allowed to participate.
Participants must fight for the team they are placed on, any griefers/whiners will be banned from the event.
Group leaders will receive a msg from the host letting them know what sector the event is in, and will have to convey it to their groups.
You may not start fighting until the host signals the start of the battle - this includes the 15 minute period prior to the planned starting time.
You may not return to the battle sector after you have left except to observe from a healthy distance in an unarmed bus (EC-88/EC-89).
No running from the asteroid field.
The last team standing wins the set amount credits (At least 10 mil, more if I get donations or if I manage to scrounge up some more).
Any violation of these rules will result in a ban from the event. Temporary or permanent depends on the severity of the violation.

To add a few things to distinguish the event from Nation War I will also be offering a special prize to the person who gains the most player kills in the event. The prize itself may be anything, from a corvus widowmaker (or any other rare weapon) to an SL kit, or if I'm lazy-more credits. You don't have to be on the winning side to receive this prize.

The event itself will be hosted in Odia. Or Bractus, haven't really decided yet.

I was thinking of doing this event every 2 weeks, instead of every week. I guess it depends on how fast I can actually raise the cash.

Random shit I haven't decided on adding in yet:

Ship restrictions - Pirates using pirate ships, traders using trader ships. Basically Pirates using Corvus-specific ships, and traders using TPG-specific ships. Pirates with low corvus standing would be allowed to use Warthogs/revenants, and traders with low TPG standing would be allowed to use Atlases/revenants. This would help distinguish who's who, but I'm not sure about the balance.

30 minute time-limit - at the end of 30 minutes, which ever team is in better shape wins.

Thoughts/ suggestions appreciated

Nation war style survival events reward those who hang back and let everybody else kill eachother. The secondary prize contingent on number of kills could help to counter that. So that sounds interesting. That also gives me an idea for a Berserkerfest event I may try in future when I'm not so busy.

Restricting traders to TPG would be a bad idea. If you expand that to include Tunguska it would probably be more fair. Alternately, make the trader team slightly bigger.

even with tung, the smallest (faction specific) ship you can bring is an atlas, iirc... or a raptor but thats just dumb. would be kinda unbalanced, cuz pirates would have corvults and cormauds, both ships specifically for fighting, instead of hostile trading.

+1 to OP though

So? Bring a Tung Taur and fight Serco style. A bunch of centaurs fighting in formation would be pretty tough.

I originally was going to suggest that traders could use BioCom so they'd have access to a light fighter (and one that hardly ever sees any use), but I think the point of this event is to be different, not just another nation war with different teams.

I would suggest that they also be allowed to go Axia, but then the pirates would probably need to be allowed to use Orion ships as well.

Oh, and TPG does have the X-Type marauder, which is pretty similar to the cormaud. It just has slightly slower turbo performance to compensate for lower drain. It actually has 500 more armor and weighs the same, with the same non-turbo engine stats. The B-Type is similar, but has a little more mass and even more armor.

Sounds fun +1

@Crusader that's basically what I was thinking since TPG doesn't really have something comparable to the Corvus Vulture, but the Type X marauder is very similar to the Corvus Mercenary Marauder.

+BioCom/Tunguska to the traders and +Orion to the pirates sounds good.

It would give both sides a heavy and a few lights.

What are the rules regarding weapons? Anything goes?
Nov 14, 2011 calciumdeposit link
I'm going to say yes to any weapons, for now. Unless any valid concerns regarding a certain weapon come up. The only reason why I am considering ship restrictions is more of an identification factor. Sort of like shirts versus skins for any of you that play sports. With nation wars, you at least have the ability to look at someone's name color and decide friend or foe (gray team kinda fucks that up haha). This way, you'll be able to look at ship types and identify them as a friend or foe.

I'm going to update the OP to reflect the following change:

Teams will be decided 30 minutes before the event starts. I will announce a sector for participants to show up and be counted, team rosters will final after this and will not be changed.

Sorry, did not realize we were gonna do a light +med v heavy+med kinda thing, sounds neat.

Calciumdeposit, when do you plan to host this event? Maybe 1 hour before NW?
Nov 16, 2011 calciumdeposit link
I was planning on doing it 1 hour after NW, since everyone is going to be on anyway.

After some thinking, I am going to simplify the ship restrictions.

Traders:
TPG Marauder Type X
TPG Atlas Type X
BioCom Vulture XT
Revanant MK I

Pirates:
Corvus Mercenary Marauder
Corvus GrayHound
Corvus Vulture
Warthog MK I

Why the Warthog and Revanant? For the newbies who don't have the levels for the other ships, or the Faction standing.

And once again, the idea isn't to give one side an advantage, just to make telling friend from foe easier.

Maybe once the devs increase group size limits, ship restrictions may be less necessary (but might still keep them if it keeps the event fun).
Nov 20, 2011 tarenty link
You've got to be kidding. Traders won't stand a chance with those restrictions.
Nov 20, 2011 calciumdeposit link
Elaborate please.

The ships seem equally matched in stats, except for the Vultures. And the Corvus Vulture only has a slight advantage over the BioCom XT. IF necessary, I can switch out the XT to the Orion Centurion Rev-C.
Nov 21, 2011 abortretryfail link
Actually, that +10m/s speed gives the Corvult a HUGE advantage.

Hi, there.
Are you sure you want to give to traders and to pirates ships that look like each other ?
Whatever variation of a Vulture still looks like a Vulture. You can't tell by a mere glance if you are in front of a friend or a foe.
The problem is the same with different variations of the Marauder.
Nov 21, 2011 Pizzasgood link
Doesn't feel like a trader team without tungtaurs. Just saying.
