New event: Heavy and Light Ship Tournament

I was thinking of an event that would really show pvp. This would basically be a tournament, and would have 2 divisions: Heavy and Light. Any player who comes in a heavy ship (just a large port is required to be a heavy ship, including hogs) would be assigned to the heavy. Any ship that only has small ports is put under Light Ships. In order for this to work, there would need to be upwards of 15, 20 players. Unfortunately, for most of my events I don't get much of a turnout- 10 players or so. Do you guys think this would work?

Why don't you do it in two ladders. Each player has a heavy ship and a light ship. Just do single elimination for both ladders. You'll have a heavy winner and a light winner (not necessarily the same person). That would cut down on the turnout you need for a decent tourney.

Interesting. I like it. You don't see many heavies lately in events because they're targeted very quickly.

+1.

I like DivisionByZero's idea. We'd have everyone use a heavy ship in the first part of the tourny, then we'll get the winner of the heavy division. Then we'd have the light division held, I dunno, 1 week after. Then, we'll have the heavy winner and the light winner face off in their ship of choice (Heavy or light). Thoughts?

Yay for rocketrags? Sounds fun, though. Also, shouldn't the hornet count as a heavy? It definitely isn't light..

Maybe ship class should be based upon empty mass.

OH FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLY!!! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG IN THE WORLD?!?!

"Maybe ship class should be based upon empty mass." +1

Now if you'll excuse me... I have to go and vomit through every orifice and pore in my body.

OP: don't divide players and ships. Let it just be.. tournament.

I am not much for dividing ship classes, however, I cannot imagine I can fall into the same tournament class with my Vult3 together with SkyProm loaded with flares. I can hardly call it as fair.

If I fight in B-8, its not a sport, its for real, using all you can get. Tournament, on the contrary, IS sporting, isn't it?

But don't listen me too much, I hate flares, so my opinion is necessarily very selfish ;-)

I think dividing the classes is the best way to go... Superlight Vs. Ragnarok is a pretty lopsided. Rags got the armor and weapons but the Superlight would be hard as hell to hit, taking the competition out of the competition.

Better to go light and heavy... but why no love for medium ships?

I wouldn't consider Hog as the heavy ship.

I would use simple rule:
Max. 2 weapons = Light Class
More = Heavy Class

If you would like to use a Valk, you must equip only two small slots. I think there is no room for medium class, considering there could be aprox. 10-20 players involved.

Medium would work if Marauders, Valkyries, Warthogs, Hornets, Wraiths, and Revenants were thrown in. It would also remove some of the heavy-flaring valkyrie pilots from the light group(like me), which could simply spam any Vulture or Centurion pilot. Same goes for Marauders.

Hogs are in, for the purposes of the OP he is considering and ship with a large port heavy...

"Any player who comes in a heavy ship (just a large port is required to be a heavy ship, including hogs) would be assigned to the heavy."

Which I feel s a flawed system... sorry Thespian. The overall idea is a good one but, the definitions of light and heavy ships you choose to go with don't sit right with me.

Nahin, I don't see problem with general definition of medium class. I just don't see usefulness for purpose of this tournament.
Surely we can have medium tournament class, but considering we would join this tournament in count of singles of tens, it would be probably uncomfortable for all of us.

Ryan, my definition from Mon 04:45PM of light and heavy is IMO sufficient for our tournament purpose. I don't say its perfect, but still sufficient.

Hmm. I think there will end up being 3 classes- any ship (dead weight) that is under 5000kg will be considered light. Any ship under 10000kg will be considered medium, and any ship over 10000kg will be heavy. that sound good? We will have 4 stages of the event: 1st stage- light battle. 2nd, medium. 3rd, heavy. then, the winner of each stage will face off in their ship of choice in an all vs. all battle (winnervs.winnervs.winner). Thoughts?

That sounds pretty good.

/me dusts off the "DeathRag"

Can you clarify what you mean by "dead weight" ?
Jan 11, 2011 space999999 link
Ship alone, no addons.

Nor powercells.

I expected you'd pick an all-flare rig, Ryan. Let's see how it likes Hive Positrons. :)

I haven't actually decided on a set up yet but, my DeathRag is not all flares. Its a secret.
