Out of Character
Boy do I love this guild. And love the people in it. And love Mogul. And love being the elected commander.
Yes, as I have always said, ITAN elects it's councils, lieutenants and commander. Could the next be you? Who knows.
So, why did I do this?
Many reasons. First, when the NSI event foiled, and the second NSI event turned to nightmare with how we were suppose to split the loot, we ended up with Lecter as prisoner. Woopee-doo.
The player behind Lecter, for those who are too new to have followed these events, basically decided to take time off and accepted, in the interim, being made prisoner. From that point on, we all knew that this would be temporary. So... what after that? ITAN is stuck with a prisoner it can't keep (could we seriously keep someone paying 10$/month from using his main character?).
I absolutely adore Itan. I tried leading it with all I could find. Keep interest within, organize events and RP events and develop the character in order to bring interest and people together. And I still enjoy it today.
But the universe is spread thin. Not a lot of people on and while it's getting better, too many people do their own little things and dont play with other people. Some Itan members dont even log-on anymore because they pursue other interest, weither leisure or obligations of all sort (work, school, familly... who knows).
So, some people and myself decided to fuel the war between the Itanis and Sercos. Because without this war factor, VO doesn't make much sense. Who wants to pay 10$/month to go suck up a rock? Or kill bots? Bots are fun but you can do that with an offline game.
VO is all about interacting and having fun. And having big ships and big guns doesn't make sense if we're all doing our own little things. So eh. We decided to plan out a little more history behind it all.
The player behind Borb The Second, Dr. Lecter and I have been organising this for weeks. Before the trial of Lecter even began. It culminated tonight. With the possible demise of Mogul.
Mogul is not dead. But his personal aspiration of war have been uncovered through an event so admirably planned that it *looked* like total chaos. I tell you all, it was hard leading 3 groups. The fake "bunny" group consisting of LeberMac, Miharu and Xeele wich went running through Sercoland as a decoy, the main defense group that was most of us, AND the Serco bunch divided in two bunch led by Dr. Lecter and Borb logged in as St James wich I had to direct in our path. I would have liked a bit more skirmishes but... the universe is wide and the ships are small.
I was hoping to use the Trident transport as cover-up. That almost worked. For a while, the sercos engaged the Trident but I fled a little fast and Mecha & Cunjo went after me.
Yes. it's true. I was carrying a dev-made widget pointing to that url on a web site of mine ( http://homepage.mac.com/mouser/vendetta/Itan/foryoureyesonly.txt ).
This is meant to explain why Mogul let Lecter out (because in reality, we had no choice) and a way to take Itan out of the blame for Lecter (getting Lecter in the first place was a bit of a poison pill in that regard), and a way to give a reason for more sercos and perhaps more Itanis have fun shooting at each other.
What will happen of Itan? Well, I'd like it to flourish and stay it's goal: rally Itanis and, ultimately, just be a bunch of people playing together.
Yet, I will play again. I'm not leaving VO. In fact, I've been brining an alt up for a while now and I sure hope to get an Itan invite quite soon! Because I like you all and I like Itan.
Mogul *will* resurface at some point. He's just in hiding. How exactly remains to be seen. There's no way to plan this at this moment.
Will he be trialed and exonerated? That'd be cool. Will he be punished? I'd live with that too. Will he get ousted from Itan? That would be his death.
The player behind Mogul will keep a close eye on Itan and make sure it doesn't fall. Besides... another alt may be just around the corner... or perhaps even already at Itan's door. We'll play again together. I guarantee it.
Lastly, I'd like to say sorry to all those who have the feeling they've been had. It's not the case. Event Lebermac and Xeelee weren't in on this. Neither was Miharu. She's been "used" since the beginning of the trial. I have talked to her offline and she's cool with the RP event. In-game, though, do expect her to be royally pissed at Mogul!
Mecha Touriaus, either, didn't know. It just so happen that HE blew me and caught the widget that pointed to my web site's secret file. This was so cool, you have no idea. Mecha has been in talks with me for days in order to make sure Lecter wouldn't escape. He's pissed that Lecter did SCAR a bad name! So it was nice that he got to find that. I /msg-ed him to make sure that yes, he could give out this information.
So, what about you? Well, play along. Itan was led by one who would like more Akanese action but blew his cover. It doesn't change a thing for Itan.
And have fun out there.
/Out of Character
EDIT, still OOC:
I should mention that I have nothing to do with that new Akanese guild that came up a couple of weeks ago. It's just pure coincidence.

Yeah I had a talk with some one about this some time ago, they where asking what would happen if the Serco did not save Lecter and I was like no you don't get it you can't imprison people in a game if they don't want to be. The deck was stacked so that we had to win. And if not I even was in place as St. Jimmy with tanked faction to kill any one I needed to.
And yes the ending was surprising, but then he did kinda warn me hehe.
Regardless of this all I'm interested in seeing what will happen to Lecter, Mogul, Borb, Miharu, and the others affected by this event.
Devs are going nuts giving us all kinds of cool stuff, RP is picking up, new and old people are pouring in, and for the first time in along time I'm looking forward to what's gonna happen in the wild world of VO.

You do really sound like an Akanese, Mogul. Perhaps you would like to reconsider having nothing to do with the Akanese?
OOC still
I dont think Mogul (and I) have the skill to be Akanese. Besides, Mogul isn't sadistic nor does he kill blindly any Sercos. But he does want revenge for what he feels he's endured in the past year. He transposes his pain to the Itani nation as he feels they've all suffered equally from the hands of the Sercos. This Akanese tendency is just an easy path to achieve revenge. Or an excuse to get it.
Edit:
also, it should be noted he's got no ties with any known true Akanese member nor is he affiliated with the new A1S Akanese guild recently formed. That's pure coincidence.
Will Mogul join them? Eee... I dont know. He loves Itan so much...

Consider this OOC or IC I don't care. I feel and think this way and for the most part "Stranger" is just an exagerated me.
This was originally posted in the ITAN forum and I would prefer to keep such things within the guild but seeing as mgl_mouser wanted to air this here so will I.
"You damned fool. I do understand where you were going with this. I really do but there are better ways to do this. Yes Lector needed his Char back to play and yes without the war there is no point to most of this game. However you didn't need to betray so many people. My personal opinion of you as a person not as a char has dropped through the floor.
VO and other MMO's are based on reputation. That is all we know of other players is their reputation. How you play, how you treat others, how well you fight/trade/mine. And now you are seen as a betrayer and a lier. That is your reputation now. You are no longer respected nor trusted.
If I do find out who your alt is I will inform others and I will try to get you removed from the guild. I see now that you have no loyalty and no honor. This has nothing to do with Lector or the game. It has to do with how you treat others and how you betrayed us."

Stranger
Serco is both the singular and plural form of the noun. Please try to remember that.
Stranger, your out of line and mix reality with RP.
I am personally extremely loyal to all my friends.
As for Mogul, the fictional character, he's extremely loyal to Itanis. His method might not have been right. But that's what Role Play is all about. Getting the universe in motion.
So get off your high personal horse and just try to have fun in-game.
Your friend, mgl_mouser
Edit:
To answer your question, Stranger, I posted this here to make sure people understand the clear separation between mgl_mouser and Mogul. Also, I do suspect my CoalitionOfItan.org account be blocked soon until this story evolves a bit. I've made Jes a Commander-level account on there so he can deal wich such things.

Good RP you two :)
Stranger, I'm in agreement with Mogul.
An "alt" character does not necessarily mean that the "alt" is the same character as the main one. Same player, yes. Character, no.
Here's an example you might understand better:
Erik C. == Blue Streak != Miles Tails Prowler <---- characters
Erik C. == moldyman <--- character to account.
Miles Tails Prowler == moldyman <--- character to account.
Clear now?

Well, I feel the same way as Stranger. (Well OK maybe not the SAME way, but close, just not as angry.)

Mogul told me the site was down (I was talking to him no more than an hour ago on AIM) but it's Moofed who you want to be asking about the site, JB.
It's back up. Fixed. (Actually Moofed does not have root access.)
I say we rebuild [Itan] and figure out what leadership we can have that won't bug out on us on a moment's notice.

With all due respect for the feelings of those who felt duped, this whole thing looked awesome from the sidelines. I'm very impressed.
Cut Mogul some freaking slack. All of you.
He brought out a nice RP, and sure he made you look like fools, but honestly Leber, don't you do that yourself?
Within a few days I got back the trust from those who I needed it from (during RP screw ups 1 and 2), and I didn't deserve it! I acted selfeshly, stupidly, and immaturely.
What Mogul did was completely different. He took an RP event that needed to happen, and could've been cliche (with ANOTHER prisoner transfer/escape) and spiced it up. As Whistler said, for everyone who wasn't tricked, this seems like a really sweet event.
Sure you're angry at ANOTHER Commander-flee, but Leber I thought Itan/IA was about companionship? If Mogul's back in under a new alt, you've got nothing to be angry about! I learned a bit before I first stopped playing, these things do NOTHING to hinder the rep of a guild. In fact, if I were some n00b I'd want to get in on this and join Itan because of it. Mogul's leaving has been many times over credited to HIM and HIM ALONE. In fact, now that I think about it, Mogul duping you was good in that it puts any rep hit on him.
Leebs, I understand being pissed, but guilds for you were always about friendship. Just get over this and eagerly await Mogul's return to the guild.
Stranger...I don't really think I know you, or I might've just forgotten who you are, but man, grow up. Yes that's perhaps the most ironic advice for ME to give, but seriously. Mogul's intentions were good, and selfless. If you detect Mogul's alt with hostile intentions, I will do what I can to protect him, including coming back and bitching a bunch to whoever's in charge. If his alt is thrown out because of bad feeling the guild has, I'll do my best (which includes buying Borb to help) to infiltrate myself with MEAN intentions!
So, ****in chill, breathe, laugh that you guys were so easily duped, be glad that Mogul put together something so imaginative, and HAVE FUN

Semi-OOC: Those of you participating in the event may have seen me flying around in an Atlas X. I declared then that I was just observing, and that was 100% true. I didn't even tell anyone on either side what I saw, so as not to influence the event.
I did, however, end up picking up a few leftover ship parts and scrap metal in the process, including a megapositron blaster that I believe was from Mogul's ship when it exploded in Edras. I later sold that equipment at the station in Deneb. If Mogul is looking for some "*poof* I'm back!" story ideas, then he might go with somehow disguising his escape pod/clinging to the wreckage and by good luck getting dropped off in Deneb.

Oh come on Leeb. I did not plan to leave the guild in turmoil. I told you that I decided to merge both the Prisoner Transfer event and the Evidence event 30 minutes before the transfer. It just didn't feel right to let ITAN get all the heat for a whole month before I dumped the evidence to clear ITAN of the poison pill of having Lecter as prisoner.
We had no choice to let Lecter go so get on with it.
If all my services as a friend serving the commander spot and making sure, damn hard, that we had a purpose goes poof in one instant because of this then there's nothing else to add.
The funny thing is, only 3 people are really making a whole fuss about this and by the great exodus of Itan, it's ITAN members themselves. Nobody else cares that Lecter is on the loose. (Well, perhaps Miharu, In-Character but otherwise couldn't care less).

Missing the point, Mogul. I could care less that Lecter is free. Good.
The point is that you left the guild high and dry without a commander and with absentee LT's who you know are too busy IRL to do things ingame much. Lotsa hassle on our part to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps... AGAIN.

OOC: It was a very well planned RP. This should be interesting to see what will happen next.
Well, Astaroth, I'm glad you liked it, like a few others such as side observers, some guides etc.
I'm personally sadden to see how some people cant discern RP from reality but I suppose I'll have to live with it.
Have you noticed how much ITAN members came together as of this? And some say I wanted to destroy the guild. Meh. Au contraire. And if the player behind Mogul can't rejoin ITAN in some other form, then I suppose I'll be a lone agent for a while. Because no other guild interests me.
Love you all. Despite the stoning.
