and based on your idea, ctishman, the Serko should have a big fat ass for theirs. :P

...cause it's exactly how they/you're acting.

Pyro: I don't believe so. I've used Japanese as a model for a number of aspects of GTS. If my understanding is correct... the Japanese represent names of other countries using Katakana (which is their equivalent of the phonetic alphabet in GTS.) Basically, they spell out the names like we do. Except for, say, when they want to write "United States", which is comprised of two words native to Japanese, for which there are Kanji symbols. (Of course, I checked most of these assumptions using Babelfish, so I may need some correction.)

Anyway, THAT'S what what makes sense to me, and I'm gonna stick with it. :)

I noticed that it was Serko on the signs a while ago... and have been using that ever since.

Sinse the bakground storie behind this indikates that the rases have diverged enough that thae are more or less inkapable of reading each other's language, then a spesifik gliph identifiing the nation in question would be the logikal wae to go.

Perhaps there shouldn't be alpha gliphs at all. Just the numeriks and the piktographs. Just a thought.

That was intentional... :P
Dec 07, 2003 paedric link
what was intentional?

You're right, it's totally unheard of for the name of a country to be spelled differently in different languages. After all, in the real world, all known languages use all the same letters and sounds as each other. Looks like I goofed!

Looks like that's the last word to me. Let's keep the ethnocentric rhetoric contained to the the "Role Playing" area please.

paedric: how do you suppose vendetta people would radio talk without having alphabetical glyphs? transmit audio representations of pictograms?

/me pokes Vlad
Wouldn't it make sense that Itani and Serco would have their own glyphs, since they're the two major nations?
Dec 07, 2003 ctishman link
Yeah, like I said in the other thread, the Itani should have a man running away as their glyph.
Dec 06, 2003 roguelazer link
Why are the "Itani" and "Serco" glyphs not included?
a1k0n: C, Q, and X are totally unnecessary as phoenetic characters.
Unless, you happen to be Serco, which means that it will have to be spelled Serko, which is silly. So, we have to either change the spelling of Serco or add the "C" glyph. My vote? Add the "C" glyph.

Y is also (supposedly) phoeneticly unnecessary

Itani won't have to misspell their name, nor will the Neutral Territories (unless they call it the Neutral Territory, which will then have to be changed to either territorie or territori, both of which are equally silly).

Serconians demand justice. Not all of us are uneducated buffoons who'd rather fight than have an intelligent dialog with our adverseries (prior to beating them to a bloody pulp). Some of us can even count to 5. So how about it? At least create a glyph for each nation rather than having us misspell the name of our beloved Serco Dominion.

Thank you for your time.

MM, yes, now that you mention it the Itani and Serco don't have their own glyphs, why not? I think that on the 12/6/4 wormholes there should be the glyphs of the appropriate nation to signify their territory. Just a thought.

Not a bad idea sherman, but its up to the devs to choose

Hmmm, there are two pictograms for "Product"... interesting. Perhaps it has to do with grammar?
Dec 06, 2003 paedric link
You're right. I hadn't noticed that. Also, there is no glyph for "C".
