Current ship changes, possible release delays.

Ray's car was sideswiped by a hit-and-run driver on the way home from work tonight. He's ok (a bit frazzled), but his car is not.. good.

Oddly, I think a wheel-bearing in my car is failing badly, as of tonight, as well. Not a good evening for vehicles it seems.

Anyway, we can do a lot from home, but things are slower, and what with the general complexity of this development.. I don't know that we'll be shipping something as major as this persistent-mine thing on Friday.

For now, I've bumped the Trident cargo to 800, and I'm looking at doing some other purely-gameplay related tweaks tomorrow. With a little luck, I might be able to release the new weapon type (energy drain), and perhaps some other things. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks all.

I hope you got his plates or something.

It needs to be said that 800cu is too much for a trident alone to carry. It will be disappointing if this is a permanent change rather then a temporary knee-jerk reaction to a small minority of complaining players. Frankly its disappointing either way, but in the spirit of getting development done and out of the way this is the last you will hear about it from me personally.

It isn't a knee-jerk, it's something I was looking at doing before anyone ever complained. I felt I was conservative with the original 600cu (even way back when the Trident first became available) and the change of ships-as-cargo merited a bump. But I chose to delay a bit and see how people might adapt in the interim. Frankly, a Type-M carrying four times as much cargo as a Behemoth XC does not strike me as wildly inappropriate.

I'm not sure how you arrived at 800cu being "too much for a trident alone to carry". The Type-S will definitely have a higher capacity still. But you're welcome to provide more detailed feedback on a Suggestions forum post.

Wasn't it 400cu when it came out?

That sucks about Ray's car. I hope he got the guy's tag. :(

Incarnate - THANK YOU for the Type-M cargo changes as well as for the tentatively-larger Type-S cargo.

Incarnate, 800cu is too much for a trident now that TRS has no use for it. Why the hell does TRS always seem to get your full attention with his dbag posts?

/me rages

It's a huge ship! It should have huge cargo capacity. There is no metric for deciding what is an appropriate sized cargo hold other than what we've already known, and what we've known has been 600. I totally agree that it should be MORE and very glad you upped it. I'm totally ok with you exclusively reducing the cargo hold on the tridents of people who prefer smaller sizes, i'm sure nobody else will complain.

Sorry to hear about your car(s); as a daily commuter, I can empathize. There are way too many crazy drivers out there, and maintenance is also expensive. Glad everyone is safe.

Is it too early to take up a "fix Inc's car" collection?

Thanks for the update!

Oh well, time for a new ///M3. Timing couldn't be better ;)

Sorry to hear about the cars.

Inc, if you give Ray a raise perhaps he can buy this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/amphibious-BTR-all-terrain-vehicle-GAZ-59037-/190968282796?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2c7698beac&item=190968282796&pt=Military_Vehicles

I'd love to see the hit and run (stop) drivers car after hitting that thing. ;)

Cars ? I thought the devs all travelled by Tardis....

All the best anyway, updates can wait till you are ready.

Sucks about the cars. Good luck getting that resolved.

It seems pretty obvious to me that a capship without some other purpose such as a great capacity for destruction, which we're all aware the TTM lacks should have several times the cargo capacity of anything that fits in to a standard dock.

I'm sorry for your cars, at least eveyone is ok.

Thank you for the trident cargo adjustment, 800 cu suits a ship that size better. Also, I'm quite happy as a dent owner :)

+5 for the larger capacity.

A ship that massive could easily have 2600cu cargo plus 6 XC docked.. It's a weapons platform for only 4 turrets and a large weapon main gun? Only 800cu cargo? Only one place to dock them in known space?

Thanks for the cargo capacity upgrade! The prevous shared cargo docking space "refinement" was really a kick in the teeth if you took the time to build one as a trading ship. 600cu + 800cu docked ship cargo expansion was not easy but was doable for shipping manufactured items as a team.

External docking to stations would be nice.

And chaos swarm turrets.

And fuzzy dice and a unicorn.

What, no garbage truck references? People in my area tend to drive even worse as the holidays near. I live in the hills and recently somebody decided to charge right into a stretch of bottleneck road I was just about to exit. I avoided a collision, but my side mirror poofed into a glittering cloud of shards. I'm glad my window was closed! Luckily the casing flexed like it was supposed to, so I was only out $20 for the mirror glass.

Good luck with your cars.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. Ray is getting a rental in the meantime, and I'm reading about how to replace wheel-bearings.

And fuzzy dice and a unicorn.

I don't know what this is, but it came up in a google image search, and seemed appropriate:

If you don't have a hydraulic press to smash the bearing into the wheel hub carrier, you can do it with some big washers, a bolt, and a nut as long as you line things up right before cranking on it..

Also, stick the bearing in the freezer and heat the hub carrier up with a torch. It makes things fit together easier.

Some auto parts stores have the tools (for customer use only) to pull and press bearings. Since I don't want to buy the tools, and I don't even want to rent or even leave a deposit, I walk in with the old parts, use the tools to pull the old bearing, buy the new bearing, and press them on the spot, in the store. I call stores first to see if they have the tools I need. You have to do all the work yourself, but still, the right tools make a big difference.
