I love how all you noobs complain about the pirates on the forums instead of in-game where other players might actually be able to help. It's hilarious.

Don't like pirates? Don't be UIT. Pick Serco or Itani and stay in nation space for a while. You'll be so safe you'll be bored to tears...

You don't learn to fight by not fighting. Get a Centurion or a Vulture and fight back. If you don't have access to neutron weapons yet, use the Plasma Cannon HX. Neutron and Positron weapons are better for PVP though, once you get them.

And dodge a lot. That's the key thing that newbies really neglect. That's why I recommend the Cent or Vult - they're better at dodging, and not getting hit is the most important part of combat as a newb. The Revenant is a better ship for looting bots, but not for combat.

Also, what ARF said - besides being in more secluded areas, you would qualify to join a nationalist guild, who could then help train you and back you up.

If it makes you feel any better, my main character has died 9948 times so far. Dying isn't a big deal.

I see this bears repeating:

If you're dying, it's your fault.

seems to be more of these lately... more sensitive newbs, or more people shooting the lowest hanging fruit?
Jun 15, 2013 PaKettle link
The rats have gotten lazy and would rather pick on defenseless newbs then go find themselves a real opponent...

Partially the result of cowardice and partially the result of having too many bored pirates around.

AND

then theres the worthless faction system ...

Yeah, those damn greedy traders had it coming! It's their fault they were in a behemoth anyways!

The advice about getting a higher level ship and weapons only works if you get the SKILL to buy them which is what we are trying to do...

and Yes we did say something in game and people only made fun of new people which at one time they were New as well but did not have pirates like that when they were...

and factions use to help thier own faction now it does not matter it seems

There is a total of one active pirate guild... and you're whining?

No pirates? When? There has been pirates in VO since I started, and that was in 2003. In fact I've been killing stuff since before there even were missions or trade style ships. And do you know what? Some people I have shot to pieces as new players stuck around because they saw killing me back as something they would like to do.

Some of them even became friendly with me and ended up in the same guild doing the same thing! If getting shot in a space combat mmo really upsets you that much, you really should find something else to play.

To expand on what the others have said: Get good, get even, or GTFO.

accordin' to VPRpedia there be two active pirate guilds Ryan.

Seems the problem lies with the carebear who stopped carebearin' 'bout others, what a selfish world we come to live in.
Pirate will do what they have always done, except if the devs are willing a different gameplay this will not change anytime soon.

I was griefed before when TRS was in FAMY, and look at me now, a general in RED (pretty much the guild that TRS is in NOW).

Yeah, the pirates we had back when I started playing were a lot scarier than the ones we have today (although on the flip side, they also charged lower rates).

And as for advice about higher level ships? Um, no. The centurion is a very low level ship, and the vulture is nearly as low. You can buy a centurion as soon as you have combat license 1. If you don't have combat 1 yet, then you are doing something terribly wrong.

Five years ago, i started the game in uit (long time deleted character), cos i wasnt sure which side to pick in the war. Two hours later, i was subbed and wandering in Odia where i encountered Mr Yoda. "Gimme that" Boom!
Next i learnt to backroll like hell, discourages most pirates by the time (too lazy to hit turbo).
I started a miner career in odia C2, explored all systems then got my shit right and join the serco side in war, in the next month with a brand new serco character. Spent time in Deneb and sedina B-8 where i learnt pvp with smurfs, pirates, traders, snakes.
Four months later a yellow Blood Thirsty was born, joined THC within the year and got deleted on its 400th pk to give birth to the Red Plant.

[Cool story bro]

I played Jumpgate years ago under the name ixholla.....

Greavers constantly podded me at first it was hard to play, it made me hard and I eventually built a vast empire called EEA and then I turned the tide on them.

Think a little become faster and smarter than them because if it wasn't for them, the game would be no fun for me.

;)

Total noob here, but if you don't want to PVP can't you just stay in a nice "Monitored" system that matches the color of your faction. If your red hang out in Sol etc. etc. And side from that if I read the tutorial correctly your changing levels of safe if you stay in any system that matches your color. So if your red just stay in red systems and your pretty ok. Farther from the front the better? Doesn't seem that complicated.

Also, don't blame the rats. Rule one of successful combat. Don't engage unless you know you can win. if your noobin' out in a nice ship with tons of cargo and only half paying attention in gray systems with no "scouts"/"allies" then might as well just trash your stuff at the station.
