Now that this lite subscription is a reality I've thought of a question about how it's intended to be used. Specifically I'm working on a Trident and I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to use it when it's done. I've seen Conflict Diamond in-game with The Compass Rose which is her Trident. I thought it was a brilliant idea to give it a real ship's name. I'd also like to be able to have my regular character in-game at the same time as my Trident. If I'm paying $10/mo to play it seems reasonable to pay an additional $1 per month to run my trident on the lite subscription but I don't know if the lite subscription allows this, and if it does will it continue to be allowed by the devs when this practice becomes wide-spread as I believe it would. My opinion is that they would like me to pay $11 per month instead of $10 but I don't know if they see it that way. If possible I'd like to know before I move my character to another account.
I'd like to see a definitive post from the devs about what the Lite subscription's limitations are actually supposed to be. Any chance we could get a post like that?
Personally I was really disappointed to find out that *all* /group functionality is restricted. :(

The lite subscription is currently limited to 3/3/3/3/3, and cannot create guilds or be part of the council of any guild. Any higher-level character that is placed on a "lite" account will be limited to the above (including being automatically ejected from any guild positions above basic membership).
I would not recommend Lite subscriptions for people who want to keep their trident on another account. We're going to add the ability to properly name your vessel, as I've mentioned in the Kickstarter stuff, and higher-level "endgame" content is definitely going to be limited to "premium" type subscription accounts (ie, what we've always had as regular subscribers). So, "lite" users and any possible "free-to-play" users (if we add that) won't be able to own tridents, or own stations, or obtain higher military ranks, or whatever else.
To put it simply, while your offer of $11/month is appreciated, we would rather have the value in going from $1 -> $10/month for all new users. The "lite" thing is really about new people, not established players.
Also, it's a giant hassle for us to move characters between accounts. We have this earmarked to build a whole new monetizable "system" for this, so people can spend $5 and move their character to another account, but.. until we get to building that, it's a big administrative pain for us, and we'd rather you avoided it if possible.
I believe Ray made a bit of a policy decision about this, after Conflict Diamond, because that was an involved process and detracted from development time.

Tridents are such a mess at the moment and I don't mind saying that this whole dual accounts to pilot your trident thing is ridiculous. The trident features for 1.9 need to get done its just silly that you have to buy two accounts to use it.
I don't mind paying to play but having to pay double just to use the trident effectively is a tall order.

Aye especially when they took so much time an effort to build, there has to be some kind of upside. But having to make a new account just to use them is silly and unnecessary.

Just so we're clear: Inc didn't say he was supporting needing another account for a Trident.
He didn't really say anything about the specific question, the best answer is to assume you won't be granted a trident transfer, but from what I was told today you can use a trident on a 1$ sub acc

Sorry I'm such a difficult customer. The case in question is, to say the least: exceptional.
Re: the OP, all manufacturing missions involved in making the trident, including the final assembly mission, have a combat 5 minimum, and the character completing the final assembly must also have trade 9 to access an XC for the largest components. So, no. The lite sub would be inappropriate for a trident pilot. However, turret gunners are another matter.
Ever since completing the Rose, I have recommended people build their tridents on a dedicated alt, wether or not they had 2 accounts. Until the v1.9 features arrive, a trident pilot is trapped in the ship, unable to act within the content of the game, except what group missions an associate might take, and completely unable to access their own inventory out & about the 'verse. Your trident alt should not care about xp or badges or licenses beyond completing the trident, and should have no inventory outside of Latos M-7.
I haven't minded paying for 2 accounts in the hopes of a bright & shiny VO 2.0. I'd settle for a clean & untarnished VO 1.9...

The situation was definitely exceptional, CD, I didn't mean the statement as anything against you. Just trying to explain why Ray made the administrative decision that he did.

Well, I did say "We're going to add the ability to properly name your vessel, as I've mentioned in the Kickstarter stuff". So, yes, we intend to fix the fundamental issues that are causing people to deal with this multi-account challenge in the first place (naming, captain-launching, etc).
I also said "higher-level "endgame" content is definitely going to be limited to "premium" type subscription accounts", so I would not recommend planning to use your trident from a Lite account, regardless of whether this is temporarily possible.

Thank you for the clarification. I will not plan to use a separate account. I'm still not clear on whether I should pursue the dedicated alt as CD suggested. I guess I suffer from a lack on imagination, I can't figure out what I should do because I don't know how tridents will be operated in the future.
Is it at least possible to transfer the Trident to another char within the SAME account?
I asked for that and my request has been refused, though I know it has been done for other players in the past.
I've made the mistake of making my Trident on my main character, because I didn't want to level up an alt as my time was limited, and now I'm stuck with that ship that can't dock anywhere and can't interact with stations. I've spent months on building it and now it's useless for me, I only use it to help other people.
This is ridiculous.

I really empathize with everyone who has put a lot of time into building these things, but is now becoming aware of all the limitations. I want to resolve this.
In fairness.. I did give extensive warning that the capship implementation was going to be way less than ideal out of the gate, because we didn't have the development time to put into doing it properly (nor have we had the time to improve it yet). But.. the playerbase strongly argued that they wanted to see it happen in any form immediately, so we did our best to deliver that.
It clearly needs improvement, and I've laid out my intentions for that over the KS updates and the like.
There are challenge with moving Tridents between characters, period. I don't remember the specifics, and I'm still crunched under this whole Kickstarter thing. I'll ask Ray about it as soon as I can.

In returned fairness to your warning that was now 2 years ago.
Also double account people are nuts. Always plenty of people around to load or man the Victory for battle. You are all doing it wrong.

It wasn't until after I went to the trouble of farming 8,800 SSS for the trident that someone actually explained to me they didn't have shields or all of the weapons etc.. etc.. and there was so much encouragement to build it from the community the idea that it was a 'beta feature' was never really discussed.
That was maybe understandable back when we had four; now we have more than TWENTY it's starting to get a little silly.

Farming 8,800 SSS was trouble? You should watch that one Australian dude's YouTube channel, he explains Arklan farming pretty well. Oh, wait... :)
Well at the time I thought that was the majority of the work, boy was I wrong!
I'd love a link to the videos CD :)

It's only a draft, I have recorded a bunch of footage in HD on killing arklans and I have revised my technique significantly, I also have a group farming strategy that involves stockpiling SSS in one location and collecting it with Behemoth XC's in large quantities which is very involved, but I haven't had a chance to produce the video yet.

Well, there's a much simpler approach: KEY system supporting {owner, pilot, gunner, guest} levels.
You can build your trident/FutureCappie with whatever alt/account you want, and manage it using Keys. Owner key should be the only non-transferable, but the owner can assign another account/ALT as pilot...
Yes, this could result in capship rental. Not a bad idea...
And clearly the most important feature for capships now is enabling its pilot to:
1) Park ship and leave pilot's cockpit, when he can choose either:
1.1) Get a parked small ship and launch
1.2) Use that small ship to (un)load the capship
1.3) Use own turrets, or bar, or whatever else is inside a capship, as a shop, repair facilities, etc.
This feature, if extended to other docked players, results in Ferrydents

Alloh is right for a change and it has been suggested elsewhere
Key system suppot for group ownership and piloting of the tridents!
This shouldould also support the ability of player to player sale of tridents as well....
