Very nice!
+1
Although http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/active seems to still work.
Yeah, one thing at a time :).
haha i didn't notice it, because it was still cached..
cool, I better get Plan B going. However plan B is much more incognito friendly, if you don't want to be on my master list all you have to do is never speak in public
I must say I dislike this plan. I've always liked being able to see which friends and enemies are around when I'm offline. A lot of times I log in specifically because someone I want to fly with or destroy is there.
Guild specific lists still work zak. If you want to know if your friends are online, load your guild page.
And if you want to know if your enemies are online, sneak an alt into their guild, and load their guild page. :P
Your enemies will know if you are online or not, and they are always online, even if you do not know it! Infact, they will know you are online before you do! Muhahaha.
It is dark, you may be eaten by a Grue.

Meh, I still wish the forum had quotes.

And this is why it should be removed, the fact that you have to log in now, and use the ingame buddy system, or /msg system is cool. Now players who think "Ah yoda is online, no peace for me! Won't bother playing/mining*" have to come online to figure out if I am about. Think big picture dude!
*mining is not playing.

Making everybody else miserable is not playing either...
You play your way and I will mine.

I understand the potential workarounds, but the active players page going away is likely to result in my logging in *less* rather than more. I understand the result may be different for different people, but I see this as a Bad Thing.
I enjoy my radio silence... >_>
zak: So, if a system were in place that, say, showed anyone on your buddy list who is playing the game (via the website), would that be a reasonable replacement?
Showing everyone in-game has too many well-known drawbacks. But I'm all for trying to balance the pros and cons when we can.

I, for one, think of zak.wilson's logging in less a definite fringe benefit of the Ninny List's removal.
That's nice, Lecter. Let's keep this discussion productive, so I can actually glean something useful from it, rather than having to lock it.
I would support a buddy list active page. It is a good solution to the problem of everyone being able to see who's online. In an ideal world, where there were enough people online all the time that there'd always be something to do, a good case could be made for not having any such system. But with our current player count, a compromise solution is called for, and I think this one would work well.
That's too bad :(
If you do an active buddy page make it so buddy's are less intrusive than they are now. ATM a buddy can know your exact location, which can be easily misused. Maybe set two levels of buddies? Buddies, who know when you are online, and friends, who can see your location.
It would just show the buddies that were online, and nothing more. We're already looking at options to conceal location from buddies, and the like, in-game. This would be a separate thing entirely, only showing that you were playing the game.
