Don't get me wrong, I'm all about paying for a quality game. I've found VO to be just that, a very quality game.
However, forking out $10/month to interact with (on average) 30 people on a given day seems.. I dunno, excessive.
Yeah I can pay months in advance and lower that monthly fee, but if the player base remains stagnant the interaction becomes repetitive.
Does this game just need more marketing? I've tried to spread the word but with games like WoW and EQ charging slightly higher prices yet giving 1,000 online potential human players worth of interaction.. it just seems like $10 is a bit much.
I don't mean to start a flame war, and I'm by far saying this game isn't worth it (because it is.. a truly innovative and original game) but $10/month to see the same 30 people day in and day out seems like money not well spent.

It's a product/service, made by a small company. We state a lot of the tradeoffs in the intro page. It's either worth the cost to you, or it isn't; value is in the eye of the beholder.
Yes, we do need more marketing. If we could spend six to seven figures per month on marketing, we could have more users too. We don't have any money. In the meantime we do what we can with what we have.
We don't ask anyone to stay who doesn't find it worthwhile. We cannot charge any less without ceasing to exist at all. We cannot experiment with alternative business models (hybrid free-to-play) without risking the same, at present (although we'd consider it in the future). We are pursuing as many forward options as we can to improve our overall situation, within the significant limits of our resources.
It also isn't the "same" 30 people, we have a hell of a lot more than 30 subscribers, or we certainly wouldn't be here.

you may only see 30 or so online at a given time but there were roughly 1800 unique characters on in the last 30 days. It won't be the same people you run into
yea id say their are about 600 different players, just my personal guestimate. it's kinda like largish corner bar, yea theirs only a couple dozen in there at once, but its not always the same couple dozen.
well I think you've got this guy hooked :)
Sweet! and welcome! Now there will be ~31! players on at any given time!
Welcome. I've been a paid subscriber from the beginning. If you like the game now, you're going to love it as development continues.
At $10/month, you get one of the cheapest MMORPGs, with one of the more awesome development teams around :). They listen to player feedback (a benefit of the 'small'-ish playerbase), and the content is pretty bomb.
Just order in once less per month and it's paid for.. so just do it!

PvP, conquerable stations, you know, content. No soul-draining comments on this thread. It's been nice and perky thus far.

We thank you for that :).

Dishonesty isn't going to get you very far either.

doom and gloom is all this game has to offer. get used to seeing the same 30 people online day after day and having the same pointless arguements.
I think I like the feel of the clost knit community. Really, in those big MMO's you seem to get lost in the crowd and I've decided I'm done with that. Been there, done it, enjoyed it at the time, but ready for a new flavor.
I've already made some friends in the 2 days I've been buzzing around Eo and am really enjoying all that the game has to offer.
I think it will be $10 well spent after all :)
P.S. I administer a few blog sites and would love to offer some free advertising space

Enjoy the new flavor of trolls too. They're nacho-cheesier.
I've been buying 2 year increments which breaks down to only $6.67/month. That's like paying for a cell phone game and getting an MMORPG. Has it been worthwhile? Yes.
Some of us are actively working on creating content. Guilds are also a good way to go.
If you weblog at all then blog it up. Wear the T-shirt. I think word of mouth by players could be a powerful device to get people interested.
