Im noticing that in the game, even with the graphics set on super high and all, it looks nowhere as good as the "non edited" screenshots on the web site. Whats up with that?

Do you have shaders on, full scene glow effect on high, and background detail to super high?

all yup
the in cockpit screens look right but the ship wiew screenies look different

They ought to look better... The screenshots are a bit old. They look better here, anyhow.

Yeah, most of them look better on my end.

Yeah, the screenshots that *I* take are better than the ones shown on the screenshot page.

Of course, I upgraded to a 9800GT recently, but that's not even a high-end card anymore.

ah, FE has siomething like this. Screenshiots are done in high res that the actual game isnt in. This would explain the diference

I don't know what FE is, but the game supports whatever resolutions your card and display do, and our screenshots were all taken at playable resolutions, and nothing was done to them afterward. As several people have pointed out, the game looks better now than those old shots. If you want to tell us what hardware you're using, and what platform, we might be able to offer an explanation.

64bit Vista, AMD 2.7 ghz dual core, 4 GB RAM, NVIDIA GEFORCE 7600 GS vid card
Its prolly the old as hell vid card.

Probably. The NVIDIA GEFORCE 7600 GS was not a top performer in early 2006 and is pretty dated now. Fortunately, there are enough tweaks to allow the game to look pretty good anyway. The devs have always taken pains to make sure the screenshots are representative of the game for most users. Like Leebs, the game looks better than the screenies on my system.

That card isn't too bad.

There was somebody recently who had driver issues that caused the game to look totally different.
You could post screenshots that show what it looks like. Hit f12 or use the /dump command to make them ingame.

I made all the screenshots on an Athlon 64 3000+ with an Nvidia 6800GT, running XP, "256MB" settings. No magic. I only adjusted brightness a little in photoshop. And the game definitely looks better than those shots, now, especially the starfields and ice and stuff.

I shot the trailer on the same machine, now upgraded to an X2 3800+ for the CPU. Same videocard. The video was not adjusted for brightness at all, or manipulated whatsoever (beyond the obvious movie-editing, titling and fades).

You absolutely have to capitalize NVIDIA, incarnate. >_>

For the record, the screens look better than the ones coming from my poor old G4 wind tunnel despite its 256MB RADEON 9800XT.

Looks sweet on my ATI RADEON HD4890's, now if I only had time to re-sub...

Bah. I can't get over the fact that the title of this thread includes "differnt". *shudder*

The 7600GS does suck for this game. I had one before.

The cool thing about it is that you can unlock a few shaders on it. I unlocked 4 on my 7600. Go download RivaTuner.

The game looks pretty wicked on my machine. running a 4890.

I use a Geforce Go 7600 as my main dev platform and it runs the game fine at 1024x768 and even runs fine at my native 1440x900. If I want more speed, I just turn off the glow effect.

7000's GPU's asplode all the time, you have been warned.
and its not from heat or anything its just because Nvidia rolled out a shit ton of failing chips or something like that.
Sep 24, 2009 raybondo link
Yeah, funny you should say that. I knew about this a while ago, but my laptop finally succumbed to the failure. I believe it was due to me reinstalling windows, nuking some patch that kept the gpu from overheating by making the fan run more often. Oh well. It's fixed, for now, until it happens again.
