Yep, pretty well done too.

Damn good video, makes VO look great. Although, just as constructive feedback, I did think that the text at the beginning took too long without any real "hook" for the audience.

I think highlighting trade convoys/mining when you mention it could be good, and then show a really epic fighter battle from a 3rd person mode when you bring up mercenaries.

Maybe too a shot of a pair of greyhounds taking down a convoy could highlight some of the more....unscrupulous activities that some members of the community subscribe to.

Like I said though, A+ preview!

I'll second what Pyroman_Ace said, I liked it, but the beginning felt a bit too much like dances with asteroid fields to me. Maybe in the future intersperse some shots of ships flying or fighting between pretty roid pictures. Other than that, I liked it.

Another possible future thing to film and show: a group doing a bombing run on a capship or capitol-class hive ship, stacked swarms, streaking all across the sector. Pretty, multiplayer, real content.

Who made this?

I made it. It was a quick-and-dirty as I don't have time to shoot 5TB of footage and then obsess over the ideal sequence/edits/transitions. This was a "what can I get done in a couple of days" thing. With more time I would have done a lot of scene customization (following fighters through the ice and revealing a capship.. whatever).

I generally kept the beginning chill, to match the music, and dropped in combat as it got a bit more tempo. A more "real" trailer I would custom-score myself, rather than fitting to pre-existing music. But again, no time for that right now.

Anyway, let's hope it brings in some new people. Glad you guys like it.

Nicely done.

You guys really need to stop that "explosions kick capships halfway across the sector" thing. That just looks so wrong. :P

i thought the video was pretty good. i only have one thing to comment on though.

This was a "what can I get done in a couple of days" thing.

i know you guys are busy and have alot to do, so i am not going to touch on that, what i will say is this: there are plenty of people who would love to make a trailer for you, and these people have the time. maybe you should hold a contest like you do with new ship ideas. i'm just throwin it out there.

@ peytros: LMAO

Awesome trailer, my only suggestion is to add a bit more then a sentence about trading and mining, for combat is not something everyone in VO loves to do. Otherwise awesome.

Absolutely gorgeous. And the explosion-starship-sector-kick looks really, really cool.

Just like everyone else, though, I do have a comment (everyone's a critic ;-) ): I've done a LOT of advertising for VO in other MMOs, both in forums and in-game chats. As soon as someone starts talking about "it would be cool if the fights were realtime", I chime in, telling them of this amazing hidden jewel of MMOs ;-)

However, something I've noticed, is that the "twitch" moniker raises more confusion than it attracts people. Most simply don't know what twitch-based combat is.

So, for the trailer to have even greater impact, replacing "twitch" with "reflex- and precision-based combat" might catch the attention of viewers even faster, especially since some gamers are surprisingly dense, and would easily believe the sequences of combat in the video to be point-and-click-based, a la EVE, in spite of the obvious evidence.

Yes, I know, "reflex- and precision-based combat" is a tad more clunky than "twitch" ;-) But it is what I often have to resort to, to explain the phenomenon of real-time, skill-based combat to many.

Inc, I actually think it's better that you used music that already exists in the game - seems more authentic.

Cool trailer. It'd be nicer if I could download it and play it on my various crappy machines. :-P

Thanks for the feedback everyone, glad you like it. Some people I showed the trailer to thought the explosion-capship thing was lame, others thought it was cool (I did too). Actually, my favorite is when the chunks smash into other capships, but I didn't get one of those recorded on short notice.

I went with "twitch" because I had limited space, and it can be easily looked up by googling for twitch combat or something similar. I know it isn't meaningful to everyone.

I would have done more text and action on trading and mining if I had had time. Combat is more of a "wow!" factor, so I was heavier on that.

The concept of a player-trailer contest is an old one and not a bad one, but it's like the whole "making ships" thing.. I'd just as soon make sure we have something before asking the playerbase. Plenty of people on here have the skills, but that doesn't mean they'll spend the time (just as with making ships). So, anyway, let's keep the "contest" idea in mind for the future, I needed something dependably "right now" for my next newsletter and the whole social-networking thing.

Hmm. Do you need to have a myspace account to see the trailer? It says I need the newest version of adobe to view, but it still said that after I downloaded the newest version.
