I'm pleased with the FF redux in grey space. I don't think there is much benefit in extending it to nation space. Good job devs!

i agree, isnt the ultimate goal no magical shields. grey space is a good start, but eventually the entire universe shouldnt have FF

i think with the "noob weapons" in nation space, we are covered.
the new players need to learn who not to shoot, and better that they learn that early on instead of waiting until they are able to set foot in grey space.

I would extend it everywhere except capital systems. We wouldn't want the little darlings having an unfortunate accident early on and ruining their experience. Also, I think non native kill faction loss should be seriously reduced.

Agreed. Itani players should feel coddled in Itani space, but somewhat on edge (even if they are well liked) in UIT space. Not sure what the right balance is though.

No. Absolutely no exceptions. There are other (and much more inventive) ways of protecting newbies than magical shields. This is VO: we don't *want* them to feel safe. Ever :-P

Nah, witty banter aside, ruining first player experiences are a bad thing. But the search for an all-out PvP system that still manages to provide new players with a relatively safe and pleasant experience has been going on as long as MMOs themselves have existed. I put my hopes for the first functional incarnation of such a system in Guild Software...

Well, this is just my observation, but the first thing many newbies want to do is kill someone or something. If a couple in Dau want to slug it out, and don't catch or understand the forgiveness option (which I've done, because I automatically start typing or moving to rebuy my ship when I die and completely lost the forgive box) then the winner is about to have a rude awakening.

Thats all I'm saying. Especially when killing a merely admired player can cost over 1100 faction points, and they start at what +600 or so? I honestly don't think anything is lost by that added protection, so long as they also get notice that things change outside.

Might be worth adding a "Player combat in Nation Space" tutorial in the newbie sectors to explain the inner workings of combat and forgiveness and dueling etc. If this is already done, then nevermind.

Also, when it comes to a player's first experience: I am entirely not opposed to the newbie sectors having the "magic shield" of FF being off persist even after FF gets turned on for the rest of the galaxy. That way, it is easy to protect against abuse in the newbie sectors: faction X players can't ruin faction X newbie's time since they can't shoot them, and it shouldn't be a big deal to have all non-faction-X players be KOS in the training sector (you wouldn't want a competing faction seeing your training ground now would you?). Of course, this would necessitate a mission which clarifies the rules of combat outside the newbie sector, and explaining how to use the duel system inside the newbie sector.

I see no problem with making noob systems have "magic" shields. I think there should be a safe zone for new users. It takes a few days to get all the rules straight, even if they take all the tutorials. We as vets might like to have no magic shields could you imagine starting this game without them?

Maybe when someone leaves or enters those systems they should be warned about the FF policies.

PS. yes i said systems not just sectors.

The reason I see little benefit to doing the work to extend FF to nation space is that nothing of interest happens there. The turrets close nations space to those who would fight in nation space and loose standing for their success. May as well focus on other game content.

If I wanna blast a Serco in Serco space as a Serco, please explain, with RP in mind, why I cannot? Then do it again for the UiT, and then the Itani/Akan types...

I didn't say nation space. I said the training sector (or newbie sector). Are you really going to be blowing up newbies in the newbie sector? That just aint right.

and scare people away from this game for life. we need more people. killing people in their first hour of play (when they can't really in any way fight back) is just wrong.

I don't think scare so much as annoy would be the correct word... although I do like to think of myself as scary to newbies
