8 hour trial?

I just found out about this game, and i must say it seems pretty impressive for a game made by a mere 4 people, and it kind of reminds me of battle-tech in space...

However, I was just looking on the site to find out how long the free trial is, to be very dissapointed to find out that it's only eight hours...

It seems like a cool game, but seriously, 8 hours isn't enough to evaluate a game, or to even get used to it. I've played games where it has taken a while to get into it, and I've played games where I liked them for a few days then got bored of it...

8 hours is not enough, and its definitely not enough to get to know the community or get situated in a guild/corp/squad (don't really know what people call them in this game), which is one of the biggest parts of this game.

It's impossible to be immersed in an MMO in 8 hours...

:(

come back when you've played the whole eight hours

I'm sure I'll think its an awesome game after i've played my 8 hours, but i dont think enough to pay for it, 8 hours just isn't enough to be immersed in a game

I'm a kid with next to no money and no means of making money living in the middle of nowhere and not being old enough to work, so it has to be one hell of a game to milk money out of me :/ I've played dozens of MMO's and only ever paid for 1

You could.. try?
If you still like it after the 8 hours, why not pay $10 for a month? It's pretty cheap, and you don't have to keep paying if you don't want to.

Yeah, it's worth a try. 8 hours is one third of the day.

Ten dollars isn't horrible. Don't buy that soda, drink water, ask your parents, mow a lawn? It's not hard.

Does anyone else sense the irony?

Guilds are not the biggest part of this game, by any means.

Take a leap, subscribe for an entire year. If it turns out you don't like it, well, don't worry that your subscription will go to waste: I'll use it.

Mean that it's 8 hours of playtime, not just 8 hours. For avarange person that got school/work + life this equals to around 5 days trial. Also VO is small game, and 8 hours is enought to either like or hate it, and if you like it - buy it.

We periodically do longer trial promotions, through various gaming websites ("trial key giveaway" type things). You could wait for one of those (there should be one in about a month). Or, you could try it for eight hours now. Or.. both. Either way, hope you enjoy the game.

Puciek really nailed it on the head there. It's not an 8 hour window that you get to play the game... It's 8 hours of ingame time, so you could play 2 hours now, and 6 next month if you really wanted to... believe me, by the end of that 8 hours you'll prolly sign up as fast if not faster than I did.

Message: Your subscription is about to expire!

Me: Orly? Clicky, typey, bam!

I lasted about seven and a half hours before I subscribed, and I've never looked back.

Don't listen to all the fan-boys in here. Ofc they all think 8 hours is enough, they all LOVED it within the first 1 hour lol.

There is a reason, that almost every MMO trial is 7 or 10 days... some go as far as 1 month! Some just give you the basics for free! NEVER have I heard of 8 hours free trial. 1/3 of a day lol...

However, don't write the game off. Just make some fake accounts, try it 8 hours on each account and tad-da... you can have countless hours of trial time by simply making hotmail accounts (takes 5mins per each account).

I tried it for a few hours at work. It's on my list of next MMO's for sure. However, I do wish I had more time with it.. because I don't ever do anything for 8 hours straight aside from sleeping and working ;)

It's not straight. It's 8 hours of game time.
Nov 13, 2008 incarnate link
It isn't eight hours straight, that's what the people on here keep trying to say. It's eight hours of total in-game play time. How much of that 14-day WoW trial do you really think you use? Probably more than 8, but most probably use less than 20, and you have to use it or lose it. What if you're busy during that two week period? With ours you can play for a couple of hours and then come back a month later and keep playing, up until 8 hours total in-game.

Additionally, we've had a permanent free trial since we launched the game. Back in 2004, no one had permanent free trials.. EvE ran occasional promos, and WoW had no trials at all (buy the box!).

Anyway, we may lengthen the trial at a future point, but aren't going to do so right now.

Inc., do you really want someone too stupid to grasp the concept under discussion to come subscribe?
Nov 14, 2008 flowrebmit link
I am only a little way into the trial and I have certainly appreciated that the time is in-game for the trial period - it means I haven't felt any pressure to evaluate the game all in one go.

I am guessing that the subscription is calendar based though?

From the date that you subscribe.

You have $10, or you don't. Don't post about trial time because you don't have $10. If you don't have $10, then the trial time is not even for you, it is for people that have $10, and would consider parting with it, in exchange for commensurate entertainment value. I don't have $15k, and I think it is totally wrong for Yamaha to not let me ride one of their high end bikes for much less, but they disagree. Just go play runescape and quit crying about not having $10. But really, Yamaha is totally in the wrong...
