*** Vendetta 1.8.40
- Additional storage can now be rented at stations. The interface is
currently located as the 'Storage Rental' button in the Load/Unload
tab. As a convenience, you will be prompted to rent additional space
if you exceed your current limit when purchasing or unloading items
into a station.
- Fixed occasional issue with Character Select menu sometimes pushing
the 'Play' button off the side of the screen.
- Fixed Inventory menu so it correctly shows station names.

does it automatically take the money weekly or do u have to re-pay? also are there future plans that if you are not paying or have no cash it sells inventory til before 10k?
Oct 07, 2008 raybondo link
It automatically takes the money once a week at about 11:00pm Saturday night CST.
It will automatically sell off items in your inventory until the needed money is acquired.

Do I have to go to each of the stations and purchase the space in those where I already have more than 10kcu, or will it be done automatically?

(On another note, the only station I have stuff in that has more than 10kcu happens to have well over the 50k limit... what happens in that case?)

ray: is the PLAYER_DIED thing in the game yet? :P
Oct 07, 2008 raybondo link
At this time, players with more than 10k will have choices. Either leave it and not rent more space (preventing more items from being added) or rent space beyond what you have in the station (allowing you to use the station normally). If you have more than 50k cu of items, then even renting 50k cu space will not be enough.

We're giving players some time to move cargo before rent is started automatically.

slime: ug. it's lower priority right now. Need to make sure I don't break the game first.

No problem. :P

I am not sure I get it Ray.
If I have 100k cu of crap in a station, won't I be able to rent the space for it?
Oct 07, 2008 MSKanaka link
No, you can only rent space for 50kcu in a station at a time.

Rather pitifully low given how a number people spend their time ingame...

It helps with the economy slightly, because traders don't make as massive profits as before (but they're still very high).
Oct 07, 2008 yodaofborg link
But escort missions still give out high profit, go figure.
Oct 07, 2008 slime73 link
Hopefully that will come next. :P

I'd like to see less extremes when taking escort missions, e.g. 40-80k profit for a 1-system mission.

I only need enough space to keep my towel.

Well, I will probably have to live with the 50k limit. Any limit to how many stations you can have 50k crap on?
Oct 07, 2008 MSKanaka link
Only the amount of credits you have...

I can't wait until I can buy massively-leveraged Verasi mortgage futures and then sell them short, thereby crashing the UIT market.

This isn't going to do anything for the economy and even nerfing the escorts again won't do much for it until income better reflects costs.

I've made over 3 mil in a weekend just doing hive skirmish. I've made over 2 million at one station just selling old ships so I could make the 10k cu limit. A million credits is just 5 XC trips of consumer electronics- not even counting the return trade which should be close if not a million or better itself.

I have one char that keeps giving 10 or 20 million to guilds or events just to keep his account low, because too much money makes him lazy. He's sitting at 30 mil now so he's about due to do something with it. And yes. He has gotten lazy.

I don't really care what you set the limit to because it really doesn't affect what I do. My point is that everything is easy to get and cheap. Spending a million on a good night of pvp getting my butt kicked doesn't even phase me- on any char I play. Anyone that can get an X1 or SCP can certainly afford more than the measly 20,000cr or so that they cost. Or the bloody Behemoth XC. I'd pay a million or so to have one as a trader because I know in 5 round trips I'm gonna have double what I paid for it. And I guarantee you, someones going to think twice about not paying a pirate when their ship actually costs them something. Heck. My trader would probably be willing to pay 10 mil for an XC.

Seriously either nerf every bloody source of income or do something about C.O.S.T.
Oct 07, 2008 slime73 link
The developers already know that, Fluffy.
Oct 07, 2008 Death Fluffy link
Your right slime, I expect they do understand this. I suppose I am being a tad impatient.

I do think station limits and charging for extra storage is a step in the right direction. Not that its going to do anything about the economy- someone dedicated enough to fill 200,000cu of space is only going to tank 4 routes to make their quota instead of 1. But because it makes the game a little more interesting.

Now what I think would be a better idea than just cutting it off at 50,000cu would be to make the first say 25,000cu expensive for every cube. Just grabbing numbers say 250cr per cu between 10,000 and 25,000. If they exceed that then the cost goes to 200cr for every cube between 10,000cu and 50,000. If they exceed 50,000cu then the cost goes to 100cr per cu and so forth.
This would make the game more interesting and reward dedicated traders and miners for volume work imo. They should only get the discounted rates if they are actually using the cargo space. I would even suggest going as high as 1 mil cube usage.

what if different factions and/or corporations and/or nations had different economic policies?

then the causes and effects would be more clear, yes?

or maybe it would just muddy things even more...
