Hi everybody (Hi Dr. Nick!),

I'm Snowlight. Well, I suppose. 22 years old, from The Netherlands. Excuse me me if I sound silly now and then, I'm a natural blonde. It came with my body.

In any case! I have been told to check this game out. I'm really impressed by it so far and the participation of Developers and such on even the forums sparks a lot of confidence in this game. It reminds me of Stardock. Awesome guys.

But, I do have some small questions. I've read a lot about PvP and law enforcement and .. attacking other players... Now, I'm a really soft little thing. I don't like attacking other players and I certainly do not like to be attacked by them either. So, is there a way to avoid this?

I'm really only interested in coop, battling AI if you may.. "comp stomping". How are the "AI battling" facilities (oh god I really gotta word myself better) in this game?

Could anyone hold a desklamp near me and shed some light on my questions? :)

Can you tell us more about your fursona?

But to answer your question, yes, there is a way to avoid other players. Become a serco miner, and avoid station sectors.

My... Fursona? Excuse me?

I think you're pulling my leg here. I don't want to avoid other players, otherwise I wouldn't bother with a MMO.

He's one of our resident trolls. Don't mind him.

Basically, you *can* get attacked anywhere, at anytime. Just like you could in real life. You usually won't if you stay within nation space and blow up bots there. It's just that outside of nation space, there are very few reasons for someone not to blow you up and take any cargo that you may or may not have.

There are a handful of missions for pvp (players and bots vs players and bots; borderskirmish) and PvE (players vs everything)

How about you simply download the rather long trial and give it a shot? Ask someone to mentor you, or to show you around. I wouldn't suggest giving your location over public chat; some people enjoy....*static*

Hi Dr. Nick!

Wait, you've read all the threads about PvP, the threads about removing friendly fire, and even the name of the game, and yet somehow you're still under the impression that you can interact with other people without risking being shot? Oh my.

Anyway, out with it! Don't hold back, we're all buddies here!
Describe your fursona!
Is it a horse? I bet it's a horse. A white horse. Maybe a pony.

Genka, please stop with that furfaggotry. Yiff somewhere else, lol.

Snowlight: there is PvE gameplay, "comp stomping" etc. However, just keep in mind that there is no absolutely "safe place". You may have read my "shades of gray" analogy, with respect to safety from PvP. I am trying to make the universe an assortment of shades where it is possible to do PvE (like taking on the Hives in Serco or Itani territory) without risking too much PvP. But, it's always going to be a possibility. In my opinion, the added environmental tension of non-safety makes for a more intriguing, intense experience, and is worthwhile. But, a great many other people (players and MMO designers) disagree, so.. your mileage may vary. After all, one can't please all of the people, all of the time.

Like zik suggests, I'd recommend playing through the trial and see what you think. Probably as Itani or Serco, as those tend to be "safer" than starting out UIT. You'll be looking to hit Combat 3 or so, then you can start taking on the Hive.

Genka, could you also post normal replies?

Thanks for the information, zamzx zik :)
I think I'm almost out of trial time and I find this game to be really interesting. I'm interested in everything apart from the PvP... I'll do my best to avoid it, but I will accept it as only part of the game should I be attacked :P

I just have two questions left before I can make a proper decision on whether to continue: How does the PvE go? So far I've hunted silly collectors.. and now a few nasty hive drones (Guardians.. eek). But is there anything beyond this? Are there any other missions other than the "Basic combat training" and "Advanced combat training" and possibly even more combat training?

I don't really want to compare it to WoW, but is there anything team based? Like the instances in WoW? Big nasty places of NPCs where you can only survive if you go with at least 5 ships, or so?

Well I guess those weren't just two questions.
Thanks for your time, in any case :)

Edit: Partly has already been answered.. Incarnate posted when I was composing this message. Also, I'm UIT.. as being neutral seemed the way to go. :P

Yeah, taking on the Leviathan (the core of any Hive) is a.. bit more intense. Usually people do that in teams. Some of the bigger Hive Hunt missions can be intense as well. You won't run into any of this until you hit Combat 3 or so, higher levels.

We also have some grouped/team missions, and are looking to expand this, but presently only have a few.

The PvP may grow on you too, I wouldn't shun it entirely. Maybe from time to time participate in consensual PvP events such as the nation war or whatnot. Might find it in your taste to join a vigilante guild and try and make trade lanes safer for all, etc.

Though there is quite a bit(and more coming) to do for those who just don't want to do PvP at all.

I've tried to PvP in other games, I just can't stand it. I don't like it. Gives me the jibblies.. jibbly jibbly..

I was once "dragged" into a PvP match by my guild in Guild Wars. I just.. didn't like it. Creeps me out. Perhaps scared, frightened.

So I stay as far away from it as possible. I do like PvE. A lot... just need to find a guild so I can team up and do some PvE together!

The Hive Skirmish missions in greyspace are fun to do as a team.

well, I dont think there are any guilds in the game that doesn't do some sort of PvP, but most of them also do other stuff... If I were to suggest any guilds to you it would be PA or TGFT. Both guilds have miners, traders and hivehunters, and also occasionally engage in PvP, however that is not a requirement join. TGFT is a little more heavy on the mining/trading side, whereas PA is more of a "jack of all trades" kinda guild, but both excellent guilds.
Contact me ingame if you wanna know more of PA (ingame name NP, we should be about the same timezone), or check out our introduction on this forum under player guilds.

I certainly hope you stick around, the european zone can be quite empty sometimes...

PvP is the single best part of this game, it's fun and consequence-free. You should do it. Who cares if you lose 100 times in a row, it's the next one that you win that makes it all worthwhile.

PvE in this game is boringly easy. Roll+Strafe at the same time, bots miss you even if they are like 10m from you. Well, except bots with flares or AGT. Stay away from those until you learn to maneuver.

Otherwise, PvE is okay, but it's non-interesting since you can't interact with the bots in any way other than shooting them. No bribing, talking, or distracting. So it's about as interesting as talking to shop owners in Neverwinter Nights, with their scripted dialogue.

But you should definitely do some PvP combat, seriously. You'll thank me.

Do not worry about engaging in PvP, I will try to hook you up ASAP. :)

My name is Obsidian and I am good at using swarms. I would be happy to provide assistance with learning how to die a glorious death in PvP.

Welcome to VO there Snowlight.

You don't have to PvP to enjoy VO, but as some others have pointed out, it is one of the notable and integral aspects of the game. This means that just because you don't want to do PvP doesn't mean you won't be immune from being attacked by pirates especially in grey space......as you have none the less gathered from some of the responses to your thread.

However in light of his, there are a number of folks who just mine and trade, and some in addition, such as the EMS group, that just go around healing folks in need......whether they are UIT, Itani, Serco or pirate. There are others that just hunt the Hive.

Anyway, hope you fun and choose to stick around. My name is Almighty Bob in game btw.

1. You will be hunted.

2. You will be found.

3. You will be flared into tiny, carbonized pieces.

4. You will start over at 1 again--many, many times.
