With 3.3 coming out in a few weeks this is a simple petition to increase the speed (and consequently, range) of all energy weapons by 1.5x
As gregpooh deftly pointed out in the suggestions thread, the unbalanced weaponry problem does not lie in the potency of the sunflares. Rather, it lies in the fact that you have to get whisper close to even score a hit on a somewhat competent pilot with an energy weapon. Increasing the speed of all energy weapons (except the gauss) by 1.5x would increase the effective "kill zone" of these energy weapons and make them a more viable alternative to the sunflare.
All energy weapons would have speed (and range) increased by ~1.5x
Railgun would have speed (and range) increased by ~2x
Gauss would remain the same
just post a simple vote FOR or AGAINST and a brief reason why if you feel the need.

I have to say, I like the idea. Not sure about 1.5x...that might be a bit much, but they could use some additional effective range. I was thinking about this the other day when I was fighting in 7 (admittedly with guass, but the same applies) and realized that three minutes had gone by without me or the other player scoring a single hit. It seems that the range that people down to settle down to during battle is always about the same and, unless one of you pulls something clever, there are a *LOT* of missed shots and dodging with no actual hits to show for it. I've actually abandoned fights that I've started because I got bored with the lack of an explosion (mine or theirs, doesn't matter). I can also see how this would reduce popularity of sunflares by a good amount, which is always a Good Thing (tm).

I like long-range energy battles. I would love a constant-damage stream with low damage rating like the ion cannon in homeworld. I just love ALL energy weapons. And the faster the better. But keep gauss down or they'll make the devs nerf it.

For it.
But how about making Speed and auto-aim related. The rail has no autoaim, so it gets to be the fastest. The Gauss has ridiculous auto-aim, so it gets to be really slow.

Like rogue, I would prefer using energy weapons.

SL drools over a 800 m/s rail gun. ( it reall does need it, and a bit more damage)

FOR, but I'm not sure how much 1.5x equates to. I'm too lazy to do the math.

if 1.5 is too much, we can always drop it to 1.45 then to 1.4 to 1.35 to 1.3 ect

You're darn tootin' I'm FOR this!
Perhaps not to these extremes, but you have my vote.

Make it do 500,000 damage per hit, The best auto aim ever. And useable only by Itani, And 0 energy drain, and unlimited ammo. And take up A small port.
Nah, Just kidding. Damage needs to be increased. And the Energy drain needs to be dropped to 50-75

It'd be way too powerful, and will increase the learning curve. But it seems to be the majorities desire... and I use only energy weapons so I don't think I'll complain too loudly

Also against, although a case by case marginal increase in weapon speed would be fine and perhaps even desirable. Simply bumping up energy weapon speeds by 50% across the board is almost certainly going to lead to alot of tri-tachy and tri-grav configurations. I also suspect that people won't like this as much as they think they will. I've been around long enough to remember when everyone was whining about rail guns.
"if 1.5 is too much, we can always drop it to 1.45 then to 1.4 to 1.35 to 1.3 ect"
I'm inclined to have the exact opposite opinion. That is, if 1.3 proves too little we can always bump it up to 1.35 then 1.4 ect. Start with a one small change in the appropriate direction and see what happens. Look where all the big changes to the rail have got us - nowhere.

Yes we can all learn a great deal from the rail. The mistakes of the past can haunt us forever. . .
or something like that.
or something like that.
Cele, yeah, I agree. 1.5 sounds like a bunch, so i say we start with 15% increase and move from there.
I support a 0.5x increase.
AGAINST
hmmm... i want to agree because i use energy weaps (or maybe its just cause ive never been too good with rockets) but im AGAINST for it would only be a waste of the devs' time. they already have them balanced very well, in a dual grav/tachy vult i (and i asume most people) can take down anything besides a vult or centaurion very easily, the centaurion and vults r just so damn small there impossible to hit. but the energy weapons work, they just have to be used the way they're meant to be used, not the way they appear in movies or other games, but the way the devs created them for this game.
