Hey,
I've just played VO a few hours, still doing training missions, so this might be a stupid question, but are there enough players in this game to make it work? 37 active players right now on a friday night, it seems to be an awfully big universe for so few. I think I played 4 hours, and I only saw 1 other player (who tried to shoot me right away).
Just wondering.

Where's that ADVERTISING?!?
Where's that ADVERTISING?!?
I'm forming the impression that VO exists in a perpetual state of being right on the very edge of making the bigtime, but never quite gets there. Not yet, anyway. It has such obviously great potential, but still needs a few good features ironed out before any serious marketing... and then a couple details after that... and so on.
Not many people here at the moment, true, but it's still a lot of fun to fly around running missions. And if you can get a character established now, then you'll be in great shape when the "coming soon" advertising eventually kicks in.

The only type of marketing this game gets is viral, I found out about it reading a youtube comment in an EVE video.
Makes me think how did the first players found this game when it was only just beginning.

Updates are posted at macupdate.com, among other places.
Doh.
Aye, forgot about that. Also Digg and slashdot.

Updates aren't posted by the developers on any major news sites (yet). :P
I found it when I was searching for beta tests. My account says I joined "2002-06-07". Hardly seems possible.
VO has not been perpetually on the edge of making it big time. There were hopes that a bigger company would collaborate and make VO what it should be. There were moments when that seemed like it might happen but the gaming industry has been fickle about space-genre MMORPGs, and venture capitalists have all but dried up. THIS time Guild Software is nearing the edge under its own power.

I found this game because after EV:Nova wasn't as good as I hoped (I hoped it'd be multiplayer), I did a search on the Google for Mac MMORPG, and found VO.

I think the thing that excited me the most about this game other than that it exists is the fact that it's so new that no one had taken "Professor Chaos" yet.

back in my day VO almost became extinct before it even became VO but the devs ate paper they found under their printer for 10 months until they managed to make it chargeable and now they can afford Mcdonalds
Hi, we haven't been doing all this recent server restructuring and new-user-signup and fresh installer downloads for our health. There's a press release going out this week (was supposed to be Monday, won't go into that), and various other stuff in the works. We're working towards bringing in more users, and frankly.. working rather hard. Some things I can't talk about, because there are confidentiality agreements. Other things I haven't had the time to discuss publicly, or make enough progress to be visible yet, but they're all still moving. I know it's already Summer, and we're doing our best to make that "marketing this summer" concept actually happen, and readying the game/servers/etc as much as we can.
summer is in progress. You still have two months:)
We have faith in you guys!

Well, in the northern hemisphere anyway.
Still got a bit more than that for the Australians, I think... ;)

There's too much empty space. Especially between King CrazySpence's ears! Look at the size of the MELON on that kid! Sputnik!
Incarnate...please give us a news post the moment you can talk about these things :3

This game is awesome (and addicting), not even considering the number of people working on it: that just makes it even more incredible.
You guys rock, I must say. I do agree with zamzx zik though; any news ASAP would be great cuz I'm looking forward to hearing new stuff about my new favorite time-waster! :D

Yeah.. uh... I'm gonna go ahead and bump this by saying that I found this game [a few days ago] while looking around for Mac-friendly MMOs to move to, seeing as WoW is worse than smoking/heroine/alcohol (combined), and EVE Online's Mac client is emulated. Only a few hours in so far, but I think it's fair to say that I'm hooked. Now I just want to get enough cash flow and skilz to venture out onto gray space and find some people to get blown up by.

I am windows, and there are enough windows mmos, I only found this because of a mac friend.
