This article on linuxlinks was linked to by another article on slashdot earlier today. Wonder how many new people we'll get.

Oooh. Teppy from ATITD replied. So should Incarnate. Go say something encouraging, Inc!! Remember all that "advertising" you were gonna do this summer? It's less than 10 days till summer!
(Might as well start now)

Ok, I replied.

Yes I remember the "advertising" ;). I was hoping for another week to get stuff ready.

Go Incarnate! Advertise! Yippeee!

Yes, great. Taking down the game server tomorrow afternoon to try and increase scalability. Migrating voice chat server out of our office and onto the cluster. Hopefully will be all hunky dory by the end of the week.

A lovely case of a surprise making necessity. What's the increase in traffic from one of these surprise links?

Hats off to inc for staying ahead of a potential flood.

It jumps to 80ish, and then drops back down to normal numbers within a month. Normal, considering the lack of "stuff to do" ingame.
Jun 18, 2008 incarnate link
We didn't get much from the slashdot post. We may get more from some stuff next week.
Jun 18, 2008 moldyman link
Wait for the weekend to hit, then you might see the number jump.

We did actually get a surge from slashdot (we graph trials and subs and whatnot), actually; it just didn't show up on the Saturday of the posting, but rather on Sunday.

Well, Vendetta hasn't lost characters logging in (that's about what I can track), but more of a curiosity is that the average time spent online per week per character has gone up somewhat over the last few years. That being said, the bots do help inflate that somewhat.

I'm sitting on usage logs since June 1st, 2005, with some holes due to a server room being replaced and such, but hey. 750MiB of mysql data purely from usage logs from VO. It's quite interesting seeing some characters development in the last, say, three years. Like Yoda, I mean, his ratio is still climbing! Probably stopped popping himself half as much. ;-)

(If anyone from VO wants to peek at what I have logwise I can provide the data, the email address from my account works fine.)

Oh, and hi!

Alamar! Whooo!

BTW... I found out about Vendetta Online from a random post on MMORPG.com

Sparked my interest enough to troll the forums for a few days to get some info then came to check it out. One night of screwin around in a basic ship (about 3 hours) led to full sub the next morning. Honestly the easy-going helpful community probably clinched the deal for me.

LOL Wiseguy, good to know you subscribed even though there are idiots like me running around...

Who is more the fool? The fool, or the fool who knows he's a fool?
Jul 11, 2008 Professor Chaos link
The fool who twists Star Wars quotes, that's who.
Jul 11, 2008 zamzx zik link
Well, obviously the original didn't quite fit.

"Who's more foolish: the fool, or the fool who follows him?" - Obi Wan Kenobi
Jul 12, 2008 Professor Chaos link
Haha. Yeah. Well, with your version, though, I'd say it depends. If knowing you're a fool means catching yourself before acting foolishly, you're less of a fool. However, if you know you're a fool and do nothing about it, you're more the fool than the fool who doesn't know he's a fool. Just like the fool who follows a fool is more foolish than the fool leading. Obi-Wan's quote works fine either way. I just said fool/foolish 13 times.

Either way, I pity the fool.
Jul 12, 2008 Whistler link
I pity the fool who continues with this off-topicness. However, I DO love it when a thread comes together.

The graphs show a nice little surge - we'll see how things look in a week.
