Problem that I see with NPC trading is people will prolly put mines in the exact path so...I guess if the NPC traders had defense ships with it, it would be a good way to protect it.
I wonder if there'll be any new sectors...
Wow, this game actually is coming along quite nicely....good to see some missions come up....also the bots being able to warp is cool....kinda sucks when you piss one (or more) of them off though...

The idea would be to group escorting defense ships with trade vessels. And the trade vessels wouldn't be any dumber than the current ships, which avoid mines in their path and such.
The universe will be expanded eventually. We're going to do what we can with the existing universe, and then begin working on things like the Nav system and other factors that go into universe expansion. I'm sure there will be lots of the sort of "half-implemented gameplay" periods that we've all come to love so much ;).. but that's a given when you have so much interdependent gameplay mechanics in development. Some things will have to be developed concurrently, of course, so you can expect some 3.2-esque "long waits" for major releases to happen occasionally.

Sounds great. I really like the AI modifications, I can see some really cool combat possibilities, possibly even commandable wingmen like in Rogue Leader or Battletanks. I'm not so sure about expanding the universe though. It seems to me like I hardly see very many people flying around in the sectors that are already there. Everyone is usually in their home sectors with a handful scurrying around trading or pirating or theres a big war in 7 or 13 where everyone is. I think expanding the universe is best saved until we have some more population density. Better they just keep focused on improving the sectors we have now. Adding doodads like the billboards in 9 etc.
Thank you for letting us play this for free, even though it is a beta. Makes me want to buy the final game when it's done even more! :) (Though Mac/Linux support does too ;))
That really sounds good... I think you've got something workin here with the defencebots and s18 (with nation ships in it). Especially 17 - 18... it suplies some "mystirious area's" to explorer, for people not that interested in flags =)
