I was wondering how big the community is?

As the title states. I found this game and it looks very interesting to me. I loved Earth and Beyond but big bad EA took it away from me. I have tried Eve and it was way to much of how long have you been playing type deal for me. I want to know how active and how big the community is. how many players are on, on an average night.

Thanks in advanced. Tudiya

There is an average of around 30 people in-game at a time. During busy hours of the week, it will often get up to 65. During very slow hours it might dip down to below 15. I believe there are around 1000 paying subscribers total. It is a small tight community. The devs are planning on advertising this summer, so the player-base will increase at that point.

ok, so if its just 30 or so people running around a world that is so huge, how is it fun?

Simple: Without that many players, there aren't that many to ruin it for you. You can use the global channel with no problems, and generally, if you meet a player, you wanted to do so. PVP is the highlight of the game, as its not a "how long have you been playing" so much as a "What combat style kicks my ass the most, and how can I fix it?" Levels don't really matter so much that a level three player could be killed by a level six player easily. (So long as they can dodge well)

Simple: we have blatant trolls such as yourself with which to play.

I think I made enough people whine on 100 today to make the game feel active, what have you done recently for VO Lecter?

Oh yah, nothing but troll its forums.

Go away already dude.

[edit]

Or you could make people whine too, its always fun!

By keeping the PvE content to a very boring minimum, the developers are able to bring the community together in very localized groups. This means that newbs get to have "fun" exploring the mining system without being bothered in 29 systems, while the actual community sits around in B8 and says "gf" to each other.

PS:
It might sound like I'm being snarky about the lack of PvE in the game, especially since I'm pretty sure the devs don't actually like this state of affairs, but I'm not. I genuinely think that PvE (mining in particular) is a waste of everyone's time and deserves less than it gets.

I have not killed anyone in B8 for ages Genka, and yet my kill count rises. B8 is usually empty right now. People agree to go there, I reckon even you could do major damage there now!

[edit]

Oh yah, I killed someone in B8 recently, but I chased em there or something!

the key to attracting company is claiming a sector is yours and chasing people that pass through it

FYI the asteroid field in Sedina B8 belongs to me, 50c to pass!

Yodar, I have my own reasons for staying out of the VO universe for now. Not that it's any of your business, but in addition to trolling the forums I pay to help keep this brilliant-in-concept, while pathetic-in-current-realization, little game afloat and moving forward. Given your spotty record of paid membership, I'd say you should watch your tone; not all of us have the free time provided by lazing about on the UK's dole.

Back to the immediate topic, if this guy is genuine in his question, I'd be damn surprised. My flame-bait sense is tingling.

Does this seem familiar?

LeberMac: "I claim Sedina B-8 in the name of _____! None dare oppose me! I shall rule by decree and bend the will of B-8's transient inhabitants to my will..."
<20 players head to B-8 to shut LeberMac up>
LeberMac: "I defy anyone to unseat me from my throne of power! I shall --
<BOOM>

Yeah, it's easy to get people to congregate.

It's also easy to get Pirates to show up by announcing your location on channel 100. Stuff like this:
"How I get to Odria? I'm in Sedna O-6." [sic]

I like to say "Don't chase me I am full of cargo!" to encourage someone to chase me.

Errm, i'm not on the dole, and i've payed and played constantly for the past errm, how many years has it been?

Nice work Mr. Lawyer!

[back OT]

Vo can be fun, even without 100's of players about to splat. I for one, can actually wait for the player base to grow, cos its going to be a pain in the ass.

You know our M.O., Yodar: admit nothing, deny everything, and always make counter-accusations.

And as new players can see Lecter, we can be civil, while dis-agreeing, I miss you dude!
