Hi,
I've been playing Vendetta Online for about a month last year and then left it to expire. Now I'm kind of attracted to it to go in again..
But I am still concerned whether I could play a game in any meaningful way without really spending too much time on it. I am an ambitious guy with big goals and various online projects. I don't want the game to eat up too significant times of my life.
However, it is something I would love to take part in if it could be something I could play in a controlled fashion yet still get quite a bit out of the game.
So what do you think? Should I return or not?
Thank you
Danijel

You're asking the anonymous, all-knowing interwebs for para-psychological advice on your self-control issues? And with respect to something you claim could have a significant negative effect on important aspects of your so-called life?
Please, spare your big, ambitious goals and various online projects this threat; the world clearly needs you to succeed much too badly for you to risk throwing it away.
Stay the Hell out of VO.

Danijel,
The good doctor's rant aside, you can play VO for a few hours a week or whatever and still get a good bit out of it. It doesnt take weeks or months to get to a point where you can get involved in the various aspects. By lvl 4 you can get most ships, get involved in PVP, Border Skirmishes, Nation Wars etc. Sign up for another month, try out all the new stuff since you were here and judge for yourself. I think you will be pleased. :)

I left VO about a month ago now, mainly because my sub ended. I miss playing, but I got more important stuff to be done irl. So, until said important stuff is done, playing VO is a no no for me.
Ask yourself: How important are your goals and projects? and would you be able to complete them without any problems even if you played?

I'm with the Dr. on this one. If you honestly think you're time is worth more to the world than playing games, and whatever automated task you repeat for income, than by all means don't let us stop you. Elsewise yes, as far as online games go this one has a quite possibly the shortest grind. I used to take trials, grind up to level 4 in an hour, and PvP in my, to this day, favored ship, the Itani Border Guardian with dual Neut's.
Thanks everyone for all the replies. I actually ended up signing up. It's a weekend and the desire to play prevailed. :)
To Dr. Lecter and SuperMegaMynt, I realize I might have sounded a bit pretentious about my "big goals", so my apologies for that. I was just curious about what do others have to say about VO's addiction potential and if there is anyone who successfully incorporated playing VO in their otherwise busy lives.
I suppose this month will be a test for me. I believe it is possible. My schedule allows an hour or two of totally free time a day plus a bit more time over the weekends. So as long as I don't overspill from that time much I should probably be fine.
Universes like VO are nice ways to escape, to stimulate the competitive spirit and imagination so there's definitely something positive to find in that.
I don't actually have a day job, so it's not that I repeat "automated tasks for income". I'm my own boss and I do mostly what I love to do. :)
Anyways.. after this month passes I'll see if I'll stick with it or depart. I'll try to keep a good balance. It's comforting to hear that this game doesn't have such a big grind as some do. :)
Thanks everyone! See you in-game. ;)
Cheers

And how do you write in italics and bold?
And how do you write in italics and bold?
[_i_][_/i_] -> italics
[_b_][_/b_] -> bold
[_u_][_/u_] -> underlined
[_url_][_/url_] -> prehtay link
[_img_][_/img_] -> (only works with pages that allow hotlinking, I think)
For the above examples, remove the underscores, and they ill work.
x^ {2} -> x2
x_ {n} -> xn
Remove spaces for it to work.

To the detriment of my schedule (darn, I swear this must be the last time I stay all night!) I actually read the back story, mostly the second half. Interestingly I almost pulled an allnighter not by playing VO so much as reading it's back story.
And you know what? I like to add some meaning to the games I pursue. It is sort of like a test of character. The universe may be imagined, but with enough completeness and depth it can feel quite real in times of suspense. Even imagined is real in ones imagination. But I wont bother you with my metaphysical views. ;)
My purpose in the game would be, if not to end the war between Itani and Serco, then to reduce the amount of help UIT provides to the war. I will not help anyone who wants to in any way strengthen either of the sides in a war. Yes, I am bringing my real life pacifism to the test in this game!
I will be a trader, explorer and miner, building my wealth and faction standing as long as these actions don't directly contribute the continuation of the war. At some point perhaps I will find like minded people to build a section within the UIT which will work to discourage its solely profit minded cooperation with Serco and Itani in favour of a more political, pacifist, objective.
And to those who believe this reduces the fun of playing? Who are you to say? VO seems pretty open ended. If you prefer the thrill of running away in a fast ship from a fight instead of doing the fight itself, who is to say this is less fun for you?
Moreover, if you prefer to pursue a more politically minded character development than one of building combat "war power", who is to say this should be less satisfying? :)
Oh and btw, I don't fire at pirates unless they fire at me first. If they do I'll either escape or.. *beware* launch swarms at them. I don't believe swarming pirates is unfair, because they begin the unfair act by pirating in the first place -- they deserve their asses swarmed! ;)
Cheers, and see you in game from time to time!

I would advise against all nighters, mostly because things get boring with only about 10 people online (including bots like IRC, SCAR BANK, and Omega :-P).
Also, if you like reading so much and the backstory wasnt enough, you could always go to the roleplaying section and read other stories written by other players.
Oh, and if what you want is trading and be a pacifist, you could join either TGFT or PA. (Though both guilds have unclear goals and are frequently involved in activities of questionable legality. I still think TGFT are trying to take over everything...)

Extortion, corruption, money laundering, arms dealing, etc. Everything under the radar.

How big is your errors file?
Sorry for the off-topicness but!

All people who hotlink to images should be shot in the face! Download the image and upload it somewhere like Image Shack
