*** Vendetta 1.8.2

- Swarm trail effects get removed when changing sectors or logging out
- Misc lua interface fixes (see community projects forum tomorrow)
- Mission HUD text properly left-justified again
- Mission menu backgrounds back to normal
- Fixed bug in handling of friendly-kills by npcs in Border and Hive Skirmish
- No more N times damage to shields where N is the number of turrets within a blast area (no more soloing the levi)
- Border Skirmish and Battle max-casualties changed from 1k each to 2k and 3k respectively (Battles happen at midnight GMT Sundays)
- Queens in Hive Strongholds now contribute to the Levi's shield recharge rate (along with Bastion queens)
- Stronghold queens don't try to defend the Levi now (until defend action works better)

durn! :P

Although I'm not sure if that's really the reason. Queens explosions deal at most 10k damage. The levi has a shield strength of 200k (unless that changed a lot with that dynamic shields thing) and about a dozen turrets. That doesn't add up.

I've also seen them get knocked out from single queens that weren't all that close.

EDIT:
Something that may be related. Just touching turrets sometimes blows them up while the shields are down. Those things have about 200k armor. Quite a lot to lose due to collisions...

About the Battle time since people asked in game: That's 00:00:00 Sunday GMT (Saturday afternoon/evening for North America). I guess I should put this info in the ad mission or something.

Spuck: Yea, I had a feeling that wasn't the only reason shields were going down, but let's see how it is now; I haven't managed to knock them down by myself with anything less than 3 stacked devlons (100k damage each) since Ray made the change earlier tonight.

ok! did a border skirmish.

things I noticed:
other serco are green now!
at the end the remaining itani ships jumped to geira
it's damn hard to take out cap ship shields. which is cool.

..and a few hive skirmishes.

the way levi queens work now it'd be pretty hard to use them to take out shields anyway. Also for some reason my attacks on them didn't make a dent. could have been lag though.

EDIT:
oh right and attacks from hive skirmish bots don't disrupt the disconnect timer, didn't try it with border skirmish bots

Should you get credits for partial kills like you do in Hive Skirmish?

After taking plenty of fighters down to almost dead and then watching them get destroyed by a cap ship or running off to get killed by someone else (NPCs seem to get bored very quickly), helping take down a couple of cap ship shields with bellyfulls of swarms, and doing a significant fraction of damage to their hulls, the battle ended with me having a single kill and not much in the way of XP gained.

Is it meant to be like this? As it stands, it seems I'd be better off concentrating on advanced combat or hive missions in order to get licenses up.

It's definitely fun fighting amongst cap ships, though it was suffering some performance issues. Ships would vanish when destroyed, then an explosion would appear a second or two later. Otherwise, it appeared to be fine.

Did I do the time conversion for the battle wrong or something, ecka?

samuel.penn: You dont get credit for partial kills in HS; where did you get that idea? It's one of the next things I plan to implement for HS and BS.

Spuck: the stronghold queen's shields now depend on the number of bastions (like the levi's). All the shield values are going to need tweaking now that the damage-multiplied-by-turrets thing is gone. The queens should be *barely* soloable if you've taken out all their infrastructure. The Levi should be essentially impossible without taking out the bastions and not soloable even then (should take more than 2 ppl even). The HAC's shields should take the cooperation of a teradon and some players. I'm not sure yet about the other capship shields. I welcome all feedback on where we need to go with the shield numbers to meet those goals.

So, yea, I screwed up the battle time configuration at some point (it's a blend of two ways I was doing it). This week the battle will naturally happen 24 hours after it should have. Does this conflict with nation wars? I can shift it to any time today, and next week it will happen when it's supposed to (on the GMT border between Saturday and Sunday).

Momerath,

I got the idea about partial kills from playing HS :-) Possibly something else is going on, but I've just tried playing it now and paying attention to when I get XP.

* If I outright kill something, I get a clean kill, weapon xp and combat xp.
* If I kill something that's been damaged by someone else, as above but without it being called a clean kill.
* If I damage something, then allow someone else (an NPC) to finish it off, I get weapon xp.
* If something dies which I haven't damaged, I get nothing.

Possibly, something else is giving me random weapon xp at the exact moment a bot blows up, but it seems unlikely.

Its ok momerath , the nation war at 2100 gmt , BS at 2200 gmt , battle max 0000 gmt.

Sundays should be fun....

I'm sorry, I should have been clearer, Sam. There is no partial credit given by the Hive or Border Skirmish missions, but lower levels of the server have been giving partial credit in weapons xp (which you get regardless of mission) since release. The clean kill thing is a coincidence; it's one of a couple random congrats messages which are only sent to the player who finishes the ship in question off.

ooops, that's 1.8.1 - where is 1.8.2 or was 1.8.2 a quick-fix and 1.8.1 contains the latest LUA changes?

lil comment on BS:

* gameplay is smooth, but bout 60-70% of my hits on other players didn't count. You can see the impact, but no beep. No problem with npc's
* Other serco are still red on my radar, wich takes away a lot of the fun

For the rest, good job, the battles are becomming pretty epic.
Jan 27, 2008 slime73 link
Serco are only red on the radar to other Serco when the sector is Itani unmonitored (when Itani win the previous Border Skirmish), which seems to happen a lot. :D
Jan 28, 2008 momerath42 link
As slime says. Obviously we also intend to fix the radar thing, but for now you can think of it as the benefit you get from your nation winning the last one ;)

Speaking of radar: are there any plans to add a bit more info to the radar blips? You could add a coloured stripe or ring to the blip to indicate major factions/nations... Even vary the blip size or shape to indicate ship class.

This would be useful in bigger fights when almost everything is red, but not always hostile.

I'm lovin this new BS is there a way you can post weekly results kind of like the CtC with player kills/pks/casualties tallied up for the week. I know nothing comes of this now but when it does everyone would know how to read the results. Just a question.

The problem is, I don't see any XP award messages for partial credit when playing BS, so I'm not convinced that the lower level is working in this case. Could lag be preventing the messages from appearing if the XP is being awarded?

As to the radar issues, the MakeFriends plugin improves things a lot, though it's still not entirely perfect (target nearest enemy still sometimes targets a green friendly).
