Different colors, as well. As it is it looks too uniform at times. Also, it drops my fps to about 12 average, 9 minimum and 20 tops.

Make it tye dye.

jex: on what kind of machine? We tested the fog on a 750mhz G4 machine with a Radeon 8500 (which is roughly around the minimum spec) and still got around 25fps with the fog enabled. Of course, that was in a specific station sector (I forget which).. certain places, like Latos M7, are going to be slower.

hrmm seems like thats too slow for me though it blazes by on my amd athalonxp 2700 with an nvidea geforce 440mx 128 mb agp

EDIT ill try it on my p3 1ghz that has a 128mb geforce mx4000 PCI not pci-x

not trollin. i like it.

On my rig it works nice. And it's an almost three years old AthlonXP 2500+, with 2GB RAM and an AGP GeForce GT 6600 w/128 MB.

The only gripe is the increase in ion storm events I seems to have. Maybe it's my mind playing tricks on me, but I seem unable to jump a few sectors in open space without having to praise the devs for the new fog... :|

Hmmm, theres either something in your system giving you a bottle-neck, or its just plain crap.

Fog runs in the 30FPS range on the crapest system I have, which has a Smellyron™ 1 Ghz, 512mb ram, ATA 66 12MB HDD, some crappy 64mb MX 440 nVidia card, C-Media on-board sound. The hard drive in the system is a real bottle-neck for some stuff, but I really don't need a pagefile with 512mb of ram, turning it off increases performance by anything from 50% to 200%, application depending.

Obviously works well on my usual machine, and adds a bit more to storms too, more newby friendly, in a way. Gives more of a *oh crap, just a few more meters!* feeling too when being chased through one ;)

Fog looks amazing. Some electric arches from the roids would realy be the cherry on the pie.

Great effect! Love it!

has anyone ran into any roids while drifting through a fog/storm?

like actually physically ran into one.

I like it, sure opens a whole new chapter of pvp for anyone who is willing to give it a shot.

the adverse effect of those damn foggy storms is that i no longer plot around asteroid field.

how's that for silly?

:-)

"I like it, sure opens a whole new chapter of pvp for anyone who is willing to give it a shot." hrmm i guess you could use 3 adv rails and a storm extender

That's the sort of new possible tactics I'm very interested to hear about.

While turbo-locking and typing, yes. :D

To paraphrase moldy, it's like a borg cube coming out of nebula soup.

Still looking for a picture of that...

So, couple of fog related questions:

1. Does fog visibility coincide with radar range?

2. Any plans to completely block the transponders inside a fog outside range? It would be cool, because then you could really get to the fun kinda hunting inside it

Tumble:

1) From my experience, no. Zooming, I can clearly see the hive bots flocking around roids well beyond the radar range, waiting for them when they attack me, like in a normal HS mission. I can even *hit* them before they pop up in radar range.

2) 42.
