A question about pvp

Jul 22, 2006 Blixtx link
There are many good pve games out there. But there are no (in my opinion) good pvp games. How is the pvp in this game?

Do you have to do pve missions for months on end before you can get involved in pvp?

Are there incentives to pvp or is it more about randomly stumbling on other people and blowing them up. Is there a way to find specific players or anything like that?

Are there penalties for killing other players?

What role do the three nations play in pvp, can you conquer sectors for your nation?

Basically please tell me everything about pvp in this game.

Thanks in advance.

the pvp in this game is awesome

no you can pve for a week or less and be able to do pvp, hell you could even skip pve altogether (but i dont recomend that if you want to be at all good at it)

well you get badges and sometimes you get experience points for killing other players. i suppose the best incentive is that it's so much fun!

there are penalties for killing newbs who dont have any pk's and have much lower levels than you. If you pk certain people in certain places, you get a faction hit (say you kill a loved itani in a station in divinia)

atm you cannot take over space, though that is comming in time. there are some missions in deneb/geira rutilus that are about a border war. There is also CtC where the nations, well just serco and itani, fight for exclusive access to purchasing the uber l33t weapon known as Neutron Blaster Mk3!!!11 this is truly a great weapon!

it might also be good to know that most pvp takes place in grey space, and specifically sedina b8. there are pirates who may kill you there so watch out! most pvp is consentual, but there are some player pirates who are "fearsome-some-of-the-time"

since this game is twitch and all that PVP is truly a skill thing here. there is some dependance on the ship and weapons you have, but really the better you are, you can do good in just about any ship.

some people who are good at pvp are:
martin
shape
niki
gavan
bojan (splash)
ghost
mecha touriuas (or however it's spelled)

some people who are not good at pvp are:
LeberMac

oh and i almost forgot, you can duel people by typing in:

/duel challenge "playername"
and you can accept duels by typing in"
/duel accept "the person who challenged you"

the neat thing about duels is that you get a rating based on how you perform in the duels you are in. there is a complicated formula that is used to determine your rating. everyone who has ever been in a duel is listed here: http://vendetta-online.com/h/duelstats/page1.html
kinda neat thing is that im the one with the lowest duel rating! yay go me!

Ever sense level 0 you can do PVP, and maybe even come out on top. But most likely not sense you'll only have level 0 weapons and such.

PVP is 'deeply' woven into Vendetta Online. While you can, if you want, train a long time doing Combat Training missions destroying Hive Bots (Hive Bots are old mining bots gone rogue, and infest every nation sector ATM) but you never have TRUELY played VO until you have done some PVPin'. For instance, theres a border skrimish going on constantly between the Secro and the Itani at their one border, and you can often find players fighting for their side there. Also theres the almost mytical "Sedina B-8" where if you want to duel someone, that would be the place to go, also sometimes nation battles are held there.

Also VO does not have a conventional levels, and nor does it have any skills. Instead, levels and skills are one and the same. There are 5 levels/skills, Combat, Light Weapons, Heavy Weapons, Trading, and Mining.

Anyways, this is only scratching the surface of PVP and other aspects of VO. Many other people can better describe it and expand on what I said.

And if you do join the battle, please join Secro, we are in dire need of good pilots.

Even though my primary character is Itani, I would also ask that some newcomers join Serco. Every time I check the active players list, there are at least 65% more Itani and about 200% more UIT. For the game to have balance and continue being fun, we need more Serco involved.

and I didn't see me under the list of people who absolutely sucked at PvP
But then, that list would be rather long...:)

Serco aren't an appealing choice, and they've never been. In exchange, we get to be the underdogs, so we can whine whenever we want.

I got my first character up to levels around 7-7-7 or something like that in just two or three days. I then got involved in a small altercation in Deneb - which lead to me getting my first 10 PKs.

It doesn't take much time and effort before you have enough levels to hold your own.

On the other hand - developing the right tactics and twitch skills - that is harder and takes more time. At least here, you are stuggling with yourself, rather than game mechanics.

I never had any penalty killing baby itanis, so who me?'s information is outdated. Or perhaps Deneb is a special place where cutting down the smurf overpopulation is encouraged. After all we Serco tolerate Itani presence in Deneb only because it provides a convenient training ground.

The penalties for killing low level players were eliminated some time ago. Killing a player who had less than combat 3 (or no pks) used to incur a noticable combat XP penalty (especially if you were at a relatively low level yourself, as it could cause you to lose a license level). However, the penalty was removed because it didn't really stop anyone who was determined to hunt down new pilots, and was prone to exploitation, since new players wouldn't know that "firing back at that guy who just shot me" = "lose that 1st combat license you just got". (The NFZ and monitored sectors are also prone to exploitation in a similar manner, though there are at least some warnings for people to ignore before they do something stupid).

I've played this game for close to 2 years now and the PvP is what keeps me coming back. It's fun, and it has depth in such a way that the smarter pilot wins, not just the guy with the quickest trigger finger. Group PvP adds a whole new level to the combat as well.

My advice to aspiring PvPers is to be patient, find a good PvPer to be your mentor and don't get frusturated. Your mentor shouldn't be just anyone, take some time and research who it is exactly that is going to be teaching you. It takes a while to become a good PvPer, just be patient, have fun and remember that even Niki dies sometimes =)

For more information, check out the PvP section of the Vendetta Wiki. Myself and several others have posted portions of our combined knowledge with some tips and tactics to help people out.

PvP in this game is like a combination of dancing and kung-fu. Beautifull to watch, thrilling to participate in.

What I know about PvP: I suck at it.

I've been playing the game for a few hours and doing some bot-killing missions.

If I want to find other players what is the best way? Do I have to travel to an enemy-faction sector and randomly fly around or what?

Sedina B-8 is the main place where players hang out and fight

Or, just broadcast your location on channel 100 and ask someone to come fight you. I promise that you won't be disappointed. ;)

There's an event that's basically a big furball of players in Sedina every Sunday, 5pm CDT or 10pm GMT.

Ok so it's not exactly 3 nations at war killing each other on sight, but more like go to a predetermined spot to goof around.

I was hoping I would be able to track down players of the opposing nations and kill them but there is no good way to do that that I have found at least.

It would be neat if you could buy some kind of scanner that told you what players were in neighbouring sectors or something like that, just something to make it easier to find other players in this huge universe.
