Let me tell something about myself.
I played vendetta online right after the beta of it ended in 2004 (I just missed it dam!). I really liked it, it was my first taste of a real 3d space shooter. Back in that time their used to be 90 people online at a time. I really enjoyed the relaxing music, trading, killing bots, the enviroment the devs created. Now the thing was, I barely met anyone unless I went to a hq of UIT for example. In the beginning you dont care cause your busy building skills but after a while u want to go out and meet other people thats a nature of a mmorpg, well it wasn't full filled here. So I went to play other mmorpg's.
I still want to play this game, but sorry to say not with 30 only people online.
This game is really more populair then you would think, sometimes on another forum when vendetta-online comes to mention you always see people that know about it, but you always see them "noone plays that game" as comment.
Currently I also play eve online, its alot more complex and has more players then vendetta-online, but it doesn't offer to let you pilot yourself. On that this game is still unique.
Its just sad noone plays it. I will return when more people play.

And that's what we call "being stupid". Here's the logic path you're taking: "Hey, look, here's a lot of people that don't play a game because the game doesn't have enough players. It's a real shame that none of us can play because there aren't enough people playing." Here's the logical conclusion that most people would draw: "IF ALL OF YOU ****ING IDIOTS WHO SAY THERE AREN'T ENOUGH PEOPLE PLAYING JUST ****ING PLAYED, THERE WOULD BE ENOUGH ****ING PEOPLE PLAYING THAT YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TO COMPLAIN!"

Did you not hear what the devs said?
Inc specifically asked the playerbase not to advertise Vendetta Online yet because he feels it is not ready for a big population as of right now.

I'm not advocating advertising, I'm just saying that it's idiotic to quit because there aren't enough people (specifically, that quitting further reduces the number of people, creating a self-sustaining downward spiral...)
He quit because he is bored with so few people online. What is wrong with that? Not everybody has oodles of time to spend just to make up the numbers. Say, rogue, why don't you spend more time online?
Rather than applying ad hominem, let's be more direct. There is no poster exempt from the clear, mandatory rule of being nice. I humbly request that this thread stay clear from any type of flame, large or small. I appreciate any acceptable attempts of avoiding atrocious posts from anyone.

Yes, I agree that the game can be more enjoyable with more players to make the universe more lively, but unfortunately the game (as wonderful as it is) isn't in the state that would attract many people to continue to play nearly endlessly. Right now, it only attracts a few people. There are additional people that do stay without playing the game, checking for game updates, supporting the developers; I myself may be considered as one of those people. I hope that my support will change the state of the game to levels beyond simple fun.
Now the reason why I hardly play is because I barely have the time to play. I imagine roguelazer might have the same reason; that or he has alternate characters. Otherwise, if I had more time, I would play to contribution to the active count, possibly attracting more players.
(Of course... if I really were on a campaign to gain more players I would spread the word about the game, but as mentioned already, the game is not ready!)

Toshiro (and Incarnate, ultimately): If we do not slowly build up the game's playerbase -- despite the perceived or real flaws, then there will continue to be those 25 - 35 players online type of nights. Nobody wants those.
I respect Guild Software's desire to keep the game's market-profile under the radar for now, but if we can slowly build up the playerbase through carefully qualified word-of-mouth methods, then why not? It is in most people's nature to share fun, neat experiences.
Furthermore, it seems like good practice to slowly load the server(s) a bit more to test their stability and capacity levels. I would have thought that Guild could simulate load and stress in a test environment, but all I read about his how the true testing is accomplished in the live environment. So, let's bring on a few more souls willing to bear with a few bugs and development pains in exchange for participation in a growing community with an increasingly rich feature-set.

why doesn't guild software just have a free week (or weekend) for people that used to play Vendetta Online with old accounts that used to be subscribed to the game.
This way it can help reintroduce people into Vendetta Online that already picked up the game and liked it enough to plop down a month at least. This will minimize negative remarks and possibly boost the population a bit.
Also it wouldn't hurt if the trial was moved from 8 hours to 10-14 hour range. Alot of new players have complained that they are on the fence about the game and needed a little longer to get more into the game.

It makes me weep bitterly.
However I try to take solace in the fair reviews (C to B-) from various sites for the so-called unfinished version of the game. Many things have been upgraded and things have and will be added that should bring the game into line with the average player's expectations. I’m probably becoming one of the most impatient people of all

Whistler, You make my points for me. I do not think that we are ready for "the big rush" just yet. There are some rough edges that, when smoothed, will make this game spectacular. There will be a time for the intensive grassroots and official push.
In the mean time, let's continue to slowly build or replenish our userbase. As for the big rush. Perhaps. I have been playing a few games for several years now. No rushing going on here.
p.s. Oh yes, I am well aware of the better populated times. Still, 60 - 70 players online max is no way to test an application and environment that *should* (and deserves to) have ten times that amount of concurrent users.

I havent quit, but ive been busy in other games like world of warcraft which i find more enjpyable. However ive kept my account active and paid just to add a bit of support to the devs.

A nice strategy to get more players in, is to rate the game at MMORPG, i rated the game acouple of days ago, and notised Nya13 did the same.
If we manage to do as EVE did, get the hardcore players to rate the game as good and hype it, lots of players will try it out.
The current user rating at mmorpg is at the moment 7.9, to get on the highest ranked mmorpg`s gamelist we need to get it up to 8.1.
So plz sign up and rate the game if you like it.

I think people should sign up on MMORPG, but I think we should hold off on hyping it until the devs give us the go-ahead. You are correct that people will show up and have a look, probably in droves, but if the game isn't polished up to their liking they will leave - and most will NEVER return no matter how much money is spent. No, let's save the free advertising for when it will do the most good.
This is a good time to quietly tell people you know about the game and have them come on when you are on. That's the kind of thing that makes people stay on a game like this.
