For inevitable questions about the new UI based on the posted screenshot (see News).

My only problem is that the reds are too distracting, other than that it looks great.
The text, selection and item colors are not quite right.
*drool*
Even if it's a work in progress, that looks awesome.

Repair Guns, Batteries, possibly mining beams and scanners and the like I'm guessing.
Yes. I do see the scanner and mining beam on the light weapons tab. But the "Other addons" lends itself to non-agressive equipment, like what I said.

If we could alter the "chatcolors.<blah>=hexcode" from inside the game, that would be sweet. I can see this being implemented somewhere in the new options menu if there's a section on the UI.
Eugh!
Like how it looks so far!
id rather see use cases, newbie feedback testing results, flow charts, UI philosophy, mockups, etc. (design document doesnt have a lot of this stuff). but its nice to see users suggestions, like 'item separate by category', in the prototype.
i like this quote from yodaofbog: "Eugh!"
but thats saying that he is wrong so...

For fun, compare http://www.vendetta-online.com/manual/images/station.cargo.buy.jpg and http://images.vendetta-online.com/images/station_interface.png
Wow, looks great, and much easier to use.
ppff people are so easilly impressed that they focus on only the ui while they miss the other item stated in the post...
Namely more new ships. Points at the s on the end of ship...
/me is curious

I am with you on that Renegade. Not that the UI improvements aren't great -- they're freaking AWESOME -- but the Raptor is my new desktop wallpaper. If there were two buttons in front of me labeled "Install Raptor" and "Install new UI" I would push the first one in a heartbeat.
I know this is a longer-standing player's view of things, because newbies will not stand for a hack-y UI, but hey.
Edit: Might I suggest "dimming" the unavailable equipment rather than coloring those menu items? The colorization will inevitably be misinterpreted by a newcomer to mean something it doesn't, whereas dimming is fairly universally understood.

Suggestion:
Move the "General", "Mission" and "Station" chat buttons to the left side of the chat window so they are closer to the insertion point.
