so uh yeah, is this game more about consentual, or non consentual pvp? I dont mean now, at the present, but rather later in the future when more pvp related things are existing.
this imo goes hand in hand with the /explode function. if pvp is to remain purely consentual, then yes it should be completely removed. If however there are to be instances where pvp is non consentual, then /explode ought to be kept in all its instantanious glory.
(maybe this is a suggestion, i dunno, but i want it to be more of a discussion than a suggestion, hence the general forum)

I would say the inverse. If non-censentual PvP is ever to mean anything, then explode should be removed. If PvP is to be consentual (duel-only), then explode can be, as it is now, limited through the auspices of the duel system. But PvP is, and always will be non-consentual, so says Incarnate.
" if pvp is to remain purely consentual..."
does that mean you think PVP is purely consentual now?
'cuz i realy don't think it's even close to purely consentual.

i challenge you to name a non-consentual form of pvp. go on, do it.
before you say BP: bp is consentual, wtf else do you do it for than pvp?
before you say b8: b8 is pvp central, everyone knows this. If you dont want pvp, avoid b8

Well, a pirate chasing down a trader would be non-consensual, and that's really the only time consensuality ever comes up. Otherwise, both pilots are in combat ships, so saying one doesn't want combat is hard to prove.
As with many things, you can look at PvP from an in-game or out-of-game perspective. From an out-of-game perspective, all PvP is consensual - if I didn't consent, I wouldn't be playing a game with PvP. But from an in-game perspective, I would say the ONLY PvP that is truly consensual is official /duels. BP is consensual, you say? From an in-game perspective, I'm defending my nation in the BP mission. I am NOT consenting to Serco invading my nation's space - I'd much prefer it if they didn't attack at all. This is not consensual, I am being forced to defend my nation, unless I'm willing to surrender (which I'm not).
you are not drafted to do BP, you join willingly, and with the knowledge that you will be participating in pvp.
You are in space.
You are vulnerable.
This isn't Carebear land.
If someone wants to shoot you, you either a)shoot back, b)run, or c)die.
Consensual is either when you shoot back, or when you challenge someone to a duel. The way it works now, people don't usually attack you without some sort of notification first. Most are also nice enough to leave you alone if you want them to.

So because I defend my nation I'm automatically consenting to my nation being attacked? I don't think so.

Beolach,
Your consenting to YOUR being attacked. You don't have the authority to consent your nations being attacked OR control that for any matter.

So everyone just ignore the trader/pirate possibility.
I've had people ask me if I knew what I was doing killing them in BP. When I said yes my nation is at war with yours. I was then asked to stop I did not know what I was doing this is for BP not PKing.
I guess we're all just miss-informed about BP Who? Me?.

@BoxCarRacer: I am a member of my nation. An attack on my nation is an attack on me. Of course I don't have any control over whether others attack me or not, but that's precisely my point: BP is non-consensual.
From an RP point of view that's correct Beo, but from a gameplay point of view if you accept the BP mission you're consenting to be involved in PvP in Deneb C10.
ICBM said it best here imo :)
Its actually very simple, you're a pilot, you have a ship, no go fly around in this (sometimes dangerous) world and do as you like, but remember, all actions have concequences! Dont you just love VO and its freedom.

If PvP becomes "consensual" I'll definitely quit playing.
Twitch space combat and non-consensual PvP is what makes Vendetta Vendetta.

@Martin: Yeah, but from a gameplay perspective, all PvP is consensual. If I didn't want PvP, I wouldn't play a game w/ PvP.
Well when you put it that way........
Good point :D

Um... nothing against who? me? but this thread seems rather pointless. You can potentially be PK'ed anywhere in Vendetta at any time, without warning. That makes the entire game, by definition, non-consentual PvP.
/exploding, running, etc. has nothing to do with it.

/me gives an example of none consentual PvP from yesterday :P
Im flying about in my shiny new valk (oh how I missed it) when I see;'s me a Serco in a Centaur mk3, *Hi* he says *The CLM request you blah* I say, he starts to fly away pretty damn fast, but my shiny new valk is faster :P pop goes the centaur. Later on that same say, I met the same centaur in Sedina, *You know the drill* goes my hail, and voila, he drops some cargo! I target the cargo, its 2cu of damn aquean ore! (now he's asking for it) I chase him to a station, but the cargo drop gave him enough time to get away.
You think he wanted me to blow the snot out of him? In this circumstance /exploding wasnt an option for the trader, he would have lost his cargo either way.
