A few months (okay, almost a year now) back we had a ball creating Vendetta-inspired tracks in the then-newborn GarageBand. I finally got access to the a fast machine again for a bit and remixed one of my earlier tracks for re-release. It's still nothing impressive, and it still relies a tad too heavily on loops, but I plan to spring it free from such coil in time. Meanwhile, anyone with Garageband (or another music program) feel free to step up to the plate and take a swing at making some tunes!

Ogg, man!
I haven't made any songs specifically inspired by Vendetta yet, but my 'group' has produced a fair amount.

Heh, thanks. I like those too, and I'm gonna try to tone down the hip-hoppishness of it a bit, as the net effect isn't quite what I was looking for. Anyhow, get yerself one of these:

I can vouch for M-Audio gear, it pwns.
whats wrong with hip-hopishness?
It's just never seemed dramatic enough to me. Its very appeal is in its earthiness and earthbound-ness.
I'd rather if ctishman's piece have less electronic kinda sounds, more piano and percussion shtuff. Or maybe I need some Q-Tips.
yeah, I prefer music that conveys an emotion in some manner or another. classical (ie, live orchestra, not electronic) styles have a lot of potential for that.
Totally. Problem is, electronic suites were only ever as good at that as the samples they contained, and without buying the Orchestral Instruments pack, I'm up a creek in that regard.
No. Just submit your score to a local orchestra and bring some mics. Much better than MIDI!
I also don't have $700/hour, so I'm up a creek in that regard, too.
Submit your score to a local High-School Orchestra... Not as if they do anything anyway :P
NO midi! you want to use a computer to have orchestral sounds, you just need some really talented cross-patching and variable multisample touch sensitivity with your midi setup.
It is POSSIBLE to make your electronic setup sound very much like a realistic orchestral composition, you just have to get alot of samples from the real thing. then use them well.

Isnt there a program to use your keyboard as a midi type keyboard thing?

Go to
http://www.fredrikolofsson.com/
and then click "code", then scroll down to "v.m.k (virtual midikeyboard)". The author perversely hides the URLs of his website so that you always see only the same URL; otherwise, I could have given you a more direct link.
It's just a small app that lets you use your QWERTY keyboard* to send MIDI notes, but there's also an onscreen keyboard and a few features, such as a draggable pitch bender. You'll need a software synth that receives and responds to MIDI input to get any use out of this, but I think it should work with GarageBand. It works with Reason.
When I use it, it has to be the topmost app, with focus. If I put Reason on the screen, the keyboard stops sending notes.

also, Garageband 2 has a built-in QWERTY-to-MIDI synth.
Wow.
You know, I love how this game has attracted folks from all over who are willing to spend their time creatively on this game, with websites, logos, music, ship design, modeling, etc. You are all good peeps.
i like ctishman's piece, it'll loop well plus has that "Metroid-like" quality. (You guys remember the original Metroid? Playing for HOURS and HOURS with essentially the same soundtrack that wasn't quite annoying enough to turn off...) Apex's stuff sounds a lot like the "Trance CD" I ripped off from Napster before it was bought and started to suck immediately. That's a good thing BTW...
I can't see going into capship combat with any of the soundtracks posted here, though. They're all too peaceful. I need something with an aggressive beat and guitar amps cranked to 11.
/me launches GarageBand and wonders where all his time goes...
