Tournament: Race around the galaxy
There will be a BLAK sponsored "Race Around the Galaxy" tournament on Saturday at around 11:00 pm gametime
Rules would be:
1) Racers must race from Odia B13 through Deneb heading clockwise back to Odia B13.
2) Race starts in Odia B13 at the WH
3) Contestants must be within 100m of me before the start
4) No shooting before going through the WH
5) You die and you're out (so no /exploding)
6) All weapons and ships allowed.
7) First person to be back within 100m of me wins the first prize. (1 million creds)
Second person back gets 600k
9) Third person gets 400k
Put your name down if you're interested. I won't start it with less than 6 racers.

I can think of two possibilities that should be considered.
1) A participant with a home station along the route could easily /explode and re-enter the race further along the route. This could easily be negated with watchers posted at every useable WH on the route verifying participants entry into the WH.
2) Non-race participants could easily destroy/slow down race participants...unless this is considered part of the race. Maybe the threat of becoming a BLAK KOS target would stop this....then again, maybe it wouldn't :D
Ahhh.....it will be interesting to see how many Def bots join this race. Faction rating will come into play.....

1) Rule #5 should address that; I would hope the honor system would work for us though, without needing watchers at every WH on the route. Watchers at WH checkpoints would also work if we don't trust the participants not to cheat, but I don't think it's really feasable. How many WHs are there on the route?
2) I think this should be considered part of the race. Makes it easier for players in good standing everywhere, but more fun for yodaofborg.

Don't kill the fun, guys.
The /explode thing can easily be controlled: Martin can note down your number of deaths at the start and check it at arrival. And who cares about strike forces and non-participants?
I'll try to do it (I'm not 100% sure as it is late and Saturday night)

<OT>Beamrider: You pulled a Solra, you forgot to log out. :P</OT>
This sounds fun. If my ping issues are resolved (damn you, Cogentco) and I somehow manage to pay for my account, I'll be there.

Damn straight, We will only have to monitor 1 additional wormhole other than the start. I think the Jallik Edras one would be a nice choice.
Anyone finishing with an additional death is disqualified.
I would hope not to see any major disruptions. Most of the contestants should be in fast ships and able to escape any minor dramas.
If I find out any guilds have camped a WH to make it tougher on others then that whole guild gets disqualified. Proof will need to be shown to me though.

If I'm around, I'll race.
I (Santangelo MacKenzie) would certainly take a stab at it if the timing's right. Definitely sounds fun. My suggestion would be to keep someone on watch at a WH in, say, Itan, just to make sure people don't cut through UIT space. Though I'm sure that's not a particularly original thought :D
Well they have to pass through the Jallik/Edras WH. They can't get there if they go through UIT space.
I'm in, should be fun to try and out run the itani def bots. :D
oop sorry martin didn't see your post there
Count me in, if im online, if a seeker gets me, thats my fault.
Martin :
You might be better off starting/ending the race at a Station (say M14), let them launch/dock to start/end. This way, there is no ambiguity.

0 wins the first Race Around the Galaxy with a time of 30:15, closely followed by Lebermac just 15 secs behind. M. Duncan came third 1 minute later with Borb II right on his tail. mr_spuck and Black Sting brought up 5th and 6th positions, heavily handicapped by long load times. nuthou5e failed to finish after he had an encounter with an NPC at 230m/s and sploded.
Storms and other obstacles were minimal. The Strike Forces made quite a showing along the way but claimed no victims.
0 used a Centurion Mk2 with no weapons, and is looking for a sponsorship deal.
Lebermac used a Valkyrie Rune with 3 neut 3's.
M. Duncan used a Valkyrie Rune with a single Neut 2.
Borb 2 used an Orion Rev C. I think his sponsorship deal may have hurt his long
distance record.
mr_spuck used a IDF Valkyrie with out weapons.
Black Sting used a Corvus Marauder with 2 gauss cannons
nuthou5e used a Centurion Mk2 with a Neut 2 for half the race and an ambulance for the last half.

I would like to state that I am also willing to accept sponsorship deals from anyone except Black Lance or its members. I will paint my new race-ready Centurion Mk II the color of your choice and will do Vendetta ingame-related text advertisements for your guild, nation, or product in channel 100.
Next time I will be ready more than 6 minutes before the race and wont have any weapons on board to slow me down. Plus I'll have a few nav tricks up my sleeve...
Let's make spacetracks!

My law suite with Orion over faulty space monkys that would not fly my space ship for me is pending.
