I trailed behind the mysterious girl at a fair pace, crowds of people walked against me in the busy main walkway of the station. I could only gain short glimpses of her glossy black hair through the swarms of people slowing me down. I started to lose sight of her, and I began to grow anxious of the thought of losing her and I picked up my pace, passing sideways through the crowd. I had lost sight of her. Somehow she managed to keep out of my sight without picking up an extra step to do so... Did she know I was following her? Why would she try to avoid me?
I headed back to the spaceport dock to leave the station, I had a meeting with a leader of the Itani Secret Police regarding the foundation of some new military force. I was checking through my logs on my PDA as I casually walked into the dock, attitude and confidence in my step. I turned off my PDA and looked up at my sleek, beautiful Valkyrie. I tilted my head and smiled as I admired it's perfect lines and sporty red stripes. It reminded me of my racing days. The Valkyrie stood out amongst the other ships in the dock like a glittering ruby, gawked at and coveted by the other pilots. I strode toward it with an attitude and placed my hand on the ship's nose, admiring it's ultra smooth armor plating texture. It's grivitic drives seemed to sing even while the angel was sleeping. I closed my eyes and fell into a trance listening to the soft voice of the Valkyrie and absorbing the sounds around me, imagining myself back in the cockpit of a Fierra force drive craft back on Divinia's race tracks, chills trickled up my spine as beautiful music filled my mind. I smiled in my blissful utopia.
A woman's voice knocked me out of my trance and made me jump, "you're not the type that treat's their ship like a woman or something are you?" "Sh*t woman! you scared the crap out of me!", I impulsively yelled back as I realized that it was this "Atia" that I met in the bar that spoke to me. She looked down and wiped her hands of blood and grease on a ragged white towel.
"I have a way of sneaking up on people don't I?"
"I'd say so" I replied.
"So how did you manage to get your paws on a Valkyrie Rune?" she inquired.
"Prove yourself to the right people and you could have one too" I responded.
She wandered to the rear of the ship and looked under it's exhaust port. "Heh, i'm guessing that glowing green deposit on your cargo door isn't from a broken glowstick." She wiped some of the stuff off of the ship with her fingers. "Purified Xith... not exactly a trader's commodity... Looks like you don't fly this ship just for kicks."
"One of the canisters was blown by a Serco when I was picking it up" I told her.
"Ours?" she asked.
"You mean Itani? not exactly." I told her.
"So you've been smuggling hot xith. Sounds like fun"
I smiled. "you could say so. You could also say it's stupid"
"I'm always up for a rush, but you you already know that don't you." She winked at me.
I couldn't help but smile.
A rather awkward silence as our eyes seemed to wander aimlessly around the spaceport.
"What do you fly? I asked her as I inspected my ship.
She pointed two docks down to a plasma-scorched violet Centurion. "She gets me where I need to go" Atia said confidently. "She's no Valkyrie, but that old bitch has saved my butt more than enough times to hold on to it."
I could tell it was a Mark II rated Centurion by it's expanded exhaust ports, but it must have been upgraded from an entry level centurion by some gearhead. "Not the type to stay and fight in space huh?" I remarked.
"I'm not such a pilot when I'm being shot at." She looked down at the floor briefly and wiped her hands on the dirty rag again. "I've seen you in action a few times. You're pretty good" she stated.
"it's not as difficult as it looks" I responded. "You know I could say the same about you in martial combat. I've never seen that fighting style before. Who taught you?" I asked
"I sorta taught myself. Concentrated rage will allow you to do amazing things."
I noticed a man approaching us during our conversation. I chose to act like I didn't notice him as Atia explained a bit more of her "raging" style.
"Atia Kazuya" The man said aggressively, A high ranking station official by the looks of him.
"Yes?" she turned to him with a dark expression on her face. She sounded almost sarcastic.
"I know you've been good to us in the past, but we are going to have to ask you to leave and never return please."
"Explain why I'm being banished." She commanded as she stepped toward him with a threatening gesture. The man had a look of regret in his eyes "That man you assaulted in the bar today..."
"What about him?" she interrupted.
The man put his hand on the butt of his blaster strapped to his large belt. "That man was a Serco general, it's not safe for you or for us if you stay here, now if you'd please do me a favor and leave the station, I don't want this to get any uglier than it is."
I decided to interrupt. "Please relax, I'll handle the problem"
"Are you sure?" he asked me. He obviously recognized that I was a fairly high ranking member of the IDF "Everything will be fine" I responded "She'll be out of here soon. Just get me a ship so I can take her with me, you can keep the Valk." I said as I grabbed Atia's arm.
"Just take your Hornet on port 3, make it quick." he said.
I strode toward the huge angular machine, practically dragging this problem child behind me. She looked confused and frustrated.
"What are you doing!?" she asked me with a yelling whisper.
"I'm not sure yet" I told her as I let go of her and hopped into the Hornet, she followed. I looked to my right from the cockpit and noticed a tall thin Serco man rush up to the station official to interrogate him. The station official pointed to my ship as he commanded dock 3 to clear for launch. The Serco man looked aggressively at my ship, he began to run toward us while drawing his blaster and pointed it behind him, executing the station official without even looking at him.
As the door opened I preemptively hit the boosters and barely skimmed the dock door as I left the station.
"I hate hornets" Atia said anxiously as she was watching from behind me.
"Oh they're not so bad once you get to know em" I said as I scanned the area around me to find 3 Serco Vultures waiting for me outside the station. I took a deep breath and progressed toward the emptiest area of space. I heard Atia's breath stagger as we headed out.
