My adventures in CtC
First off I would like to dedicate this poorly written string of sentences to all the great people who play CtC, without them I would not be writing this.
I quickly ran to my ship, my personal computer implant had just informed me that to Serco convoy was leaving. I’m Borb II of the Sarken house, the son of Borb a Serco hero in the games. He had wanted me to fallow him and due to this I was raised and augmented for land combat, when I entered my late teens we had a falling out and I decide to serve the great Serco nation by becoming a combat pilot. I was able to reverse a few of m augmentations but I’m now a funny looking mix between an Army grunt and a small pilot. Due to my body build I was rejected when I tried to become a station guard. I also think my father my have played a role in my application being rejected but I have no proof. At this time I considered going back to my family, but that would not only mean I was wrong it would also mean I had given up. No Serco ever gives up, I could not go back I would find another way of serving my great nation. It was at this time I heard from a friend about this thing he called “capture the cargo” or by the acronym “CtC”. This was to the Serco pilots what the great games were to the Serco Army. Basically in order for the Serco nation to build the neutron cannon mk3 which some would argue is the best gun in known space, we must have xith ore from our suppliers in grey space. This does not sound like a big deal at first but the lazy Itani want to free load off of our hard work. They also had a cargo route that ran to their suppliers in grey space. Now if our routes were never messed with we would have enough xith to make the neut 3s available for every one. But the Itani are greedy as well as lazy, they try to attack our convoys and take our cargo to boost their reserves, but when our reserves get too low we can not make enough guns to equip our brave non-military pilots, thus limiting our combat efficiently and giving our enemies an edge over us. So not only do we have to guard our convoys from the greedy Itani but we also must also attack their convoys to get our supplies back up. This is why it’s known as capture the cargo.
Today I am guarding our convoys from vicious the Itani attacks that had been devastating our routes. The day for the most part had been nice and quite, a few light attacked but nothing big. Mostly young hotshot Itani, trying to prove them self’s by making hit and run attacks. We had lost little cargo and captured much. As I jumped to the wormhole (WH) trying to catch up with the convoy I was surprised to hear that one of our transports had not only been attacked but also destroyed. I jumped into the system and quickly saw what a I was looking for an infamous Itani trying to get the cargo and avoid being shot by one of our brave Serco pilots and a famed UIT pilot who work with our great nation to stop the cowardly attacks by the Itani. I saw the Itani had yet to get the cargo. Seeing that the Itani was busy with the other two pilots I made a split second decision to save the cargo. I activated my short-range tractor beams and brought the cargo in to the hold of my warthog mk2. As I loaded the cargo in to my ship I was informed by the computer that I was under attack, I quickly turboed the ship and headed for the WH to get outta there. 92% my computer said as it informed me of my ships armor. No big deal the Itani was most likely going to die in his ship and I would be able to get the cargo back to Serco space.
There was light comm traffic as I entered Ukari/Initros WH. I had made it safely here and was not expecting any more action; it was then that I saw him on my scanner. I was the lone Itani again, the same one that had attacked our convoy. He was 1200m away from me and I was 2300m from the WM and safety. I was carrying 14tons of cargo on my hog in action to the gatteling turent (GT) and gauss cannon. He was in a centurion mk2 a light fast ship. My only hope was that I was all ready turboing when he entered the system. If I was lucky I could make the WH and not have to worry about losing the cargo. For a second it looked like I would make it, then the distance counter stopped at 900m and slowly at first started counting down to 800m I was still 1000m from the WH and as I was trying to figure out what to do he had gotten 650m to me. I know that a good pilot can hit a target at any thing under 400m as long as it’s moving in a straight line, as I was. I had to take the risk and fight him. I tried to spin around and face him, but I was unable to evade his shots in time he had gotten 250m to me and opened up on me. 84% my computer beeped, I knew I had to end it fast or he would kill my less maneuverable ship. I fired my gauss cannon at him in a short three round burst to conserve energy for my turret. He was ready and quickly evaded my shots it was then that he got close and I let lose with my GT, I smiled with joy and hope as my computer told me I had hit him and dropped hit shields to 80%. Maybe I could still survive the fight and get the cargo though. I was evading all of his shots, I had decided not to use my gauss, he was a good pilot and I could not risk losing the energy. As he slowly closed back in on me I fired the GT at him draining my energy chamber. Enemy target at 40% my computer told me. Yes I could win this fight. He was still way to close to me and I let lose once more with my GT, I laughed more with relief then any thing else when his shields hit 9%. I waited for him to run, Itani had a habit of doing that when it was clear that they were losing the fight. Not like us Serco who fight to the death. I was surprised when he turned his ship around and charged back at me his guns blazing. He had to know he was going to die, yet he still came at me, a brave Itani? What is this galaxy coming to? I thought as his exploding ship blew shrapnel all around.
“Is he here?” I heard on my comm. It was the famed UIT member asking about the Itani. No, I said, I’ve killed him. I slowly smiled as the last of the post victory euphoria left me. I was still thinking of the lone Itani and his bravery as I landed in Pyronis and dropped off the cargo with the port guises. Could it be possible that there are more out there like him? What could this mean for the empire? Regardless I look forward to meeting these few brave Itani, and fighting them to the death.
