Announcing the 100th Deneb Run!

The Deneb Run is the oldest, most famous event in the history of the Nations; pilots from all walks of life come together to pit themselves against one another and the dangers of space, vying for victory, fortune and fame!

And on July 7th, 4434, the 100th Deneb Run will be held. To celebrate this landmark occasion, TGFT, the CDC and SSC will be changing the rules of the 100th Run slightly, to make it more challenging and rewarding!

The changes are as follow:

1. Even more prize money! Starting at 20 million credits total prizes, it can go as high as 60 million, depending on the number of racers taking part!

- One group of racers (7 racers plus 1 MC): 20 million credits; 10 million for first place, 6 million for second place, 4 million for third place.
- Two groups of racers (Up to 14 racers and 2 MCs): 40 million credits; 20 million for first place, 12 million for second place, 8 million for third place.
- Three groups of racers (up to 21 racers and 3 MCs): 60 million credits; 30 million for first, 20 million for second place, 10 million for third place.

2. As you can see, only 21 racers will be allowed to race! This will be handled via pre-registration, and it will be a case of first come first serve! Pre-registration will give you the following benefits:

- Obviously, first off, you have now a place reserved on the 100th Deneb Run. This place will be kept for you until 10 minutes before race start; the Run is bound to run late with many racers in it, so you should show up, preferably, half an hour before the race. Pre-registered racers who are not in Odia M-14 with their racing ship (or at least enroute) 10 minutes before race start will forfeit their place, which will then be offered to anyone else who wishes to race and is in Odia M-14.

- Second, as a pre-registered racer you will help decide at what time the Run will be held! The date cannot be changed, but you can help steer the time slot to one that fits you, the rest of the racers and the MCs best! Time slot elections will be closed two weeks before the 100th Run, on the 23rd of June, to avoid them from dragging out too close to the event and to be able to inform everyone of the final time, promptly.

Alternatively, more groups can be made available (and possibly prizes will go up as well!) if more MCs can be found. If you'd like to participate by MCing a group, or adding more prize money, feel free to speak up!

3. In order to make the Run more challenging, the route is now longer! It will consist of two loops, the first being the usual one (Odia to Deneb back to Odia, flying clockwise around the systems), but then instead of docking people will keep going to Ukari again, where they will enter Unionspace via Arta Caelestis, travel across it to Edras, and then back to Odia to dock for the win! A map clearly showing the new route will go up soon; needless to say, two passes across piratespace instead of one will potentially make the 100th Run twice as dangerous!

And that's it! Apart from the changes above, the rest of the Deneb Rules stay the same; Valkyries are still not allowed (since not everyone has access to them), you can only die once, and you must report your position at every wormhole!

Those prizes are tasty, aren't they? You might be thinking that the pirates will find them tasty too! Well, do not worry: while the pirates are still fully eligible to earn some of the cash, in order to do so they will have to kill a lot of racers, and as anyone can tell you, that is a very hard thing to do! Imagine, with two full groups, having to kill 12 racers in order to earn the smallest prize! Anyone can see your best bet to get at these awesome prizes is to participate as a racer; there's safety in numbers, so join the race, and do your best secure in the knowledge pirates will have a very hard time ahead of them. Be smart! Be a racer, not a shooter!

So mark your calendars, gird yourselves for the challenge of a generation, and state your intentions to participate and help us celebrate the Deneb Run on its 100th edition! Pre-registration is now open!

Hoping that in one month from now, the sector loading times and group disband bug are solved, I'll race.

I prefer the early time slot.

Here's a diagram showing the route for the 100th Deneb Run:

Since we might have a lot of racers, making it hard to keep track of everyone, might it be easier to make the 2nd route go through azek? It'll eliminate the temptation to cheat by taking the azek shortcut.
Jun 04, 2007 MSKanaka link
It is still required (as always) that you report in at wormhole sectors. With that and the location indicators in the group list, the MCs will know if someone decides to take a shortcut.

will there be rewards for pirates that shoot speed monkeys ?
