Hereby Announcing a Mirror Tournament (REGISTRATION CLOSED)
Rules:
1. Each participant is required to fight each other participant twice, once using each player's chosen layout. Layouts are restricted as follows:
A) In a Particular Matchup, no player may select a ship/weapon layout that the other player does not have access to.
A.1) No matchup is allowed which cannot deal at least thrice the damage of its own hull. (AKA no equipping a maud with a single iceflare). An energy weapon removes this restriction entirely.
A.2) You MUST inform eachother of your weapon/ship/battery choices BEFORE the fights begin, to prevent players from using the info to their advantage
B) Other than that, everything is good
2. Tournament will take place over a few weeks. You are expected to schedule your own matches. A referee is recommended to allow accurate reporting.
3. Entry Fee is 500000 credits, with the prize breakdown being
50% of the funds for first, 25% for second, 10% for third. With 15% being alotted for Prizes for interesting matches.
4. Hopefully, if we can get a good program going, the fights can be videotaped. Those fights that ARE videotaped will compete for the "Brilliancy Prizes". (Akin to those that used to be given out during large scale Chess tournaments, for the best games)
More information will be provided when we see the signups.

I could be your movie guy, I have a pretty nice setup for vid recording ;) im not the best movie editor in the world, but if its just the fight scene ya want, that I can do :)
:) just the fight scene.
It would be good to have several players who can do this kind of recording. Since the timing for each match may be odd.

I'm in. Where's this fight gonna take place?
I can film as well, as long as the fight isn't in a WH sector with 300 bots moving thru it.
(I can't get proms or SVG Vults...)

Sounds like fun. Definitely some interesting strategy involved (Can you beat your own preferred loadout? Can you avoid handing your opponent an easy victory? etc)
Count me in. I await the inevitable fight where both people picked Rags armed with repair guns and charge cannons.

So to recap the basic idea,
2 fights with each person, one where you get to choose the layouts for BOTH players. One where they choose.
Leber:
Well,
It won't take place over 1 day so the place is really wherever is most convenient.

And Kudos on the idea btw.

If I'm available, I can record video but not sound (well, not correctly synced sound, anyway).
err umm can i be in it?
Well, I don't want to get more than 10 people, otherwise the roundrobin is going to be huge
So here's my thinking,
We start a group of matches immediately, and the top 2 can move into a winners bracket,
after 3-4 tournaments, the top 2 from each tournament engage in a roundrobin for championship status.
I'm gonna need other people to help out with the recording as well.
Anyone have any good organizational ideas?

I'd like to fight, but I don't know when I'll be in game again. Computer is still borked.

I actually meant to just offer my services at capturing video if I'm available, not to participate, so if you're limiting it to 10 participants you can let someone else take my spot.
I'd like to compete

Ok, final list posted to the top of this thread, find your opponents, and start as soon as you can, post results back to this thread, I'll keep a spreadsheet. Make sure you post who referee'd and the layouts. Especially if no video footage is taken.
Speak to the posters that offered their camera services if you want to be eligeable for the bonus prizes. And get the 500k entry fee to me when you see me.
