Ultimate/Planned Capital Ship Battle 2 (New Rules)

There will be an Ultimate Capital Ship Battle (2) Saturday, May 7, 2005, at 7pm GMT. Use Daylight Saving Time (where applicable) to translate the time.

Thats:
12pm PST (GMT-7)(San Francisco, USA)
3pm EDT (GMT -4)(New York, USA)
7PM GMT (GMT) (Casablanca, Morocco)
8pm IST (GMT +1 (Dublin, Ireland)
9pm CEST (GMT +2) (Paris, France)
4am (GMT +9) (Tokyo, Japan)

This is a nation specific free for all battle. UIT vs Itani vs Serco. The rules are a little different for this battle. Your goal is to destroy the enemy’s Cap ship BEFORE it reaches Sedina B8. Only one rule so far NO WINGBUGGING. Anything else is OK.

The ship that stays alive the longest is the winner, in or out of Sedina B8. The winners receive 2 Million credits. Each nation needs to pick a leader before the event and message me their name. I’ll give the 2 million to the leader of the winning nation and they can distribute the money to their players. And of course you’ll have bragging rights.

Remember the winner is the nation that keeps their ship alive the longest not the nation that gets to B8 first or at all.

Since we won’t have to wait 1.5 hours to start this battle we should be able to do it twice.

Again special thanks to Sherpa for agreeing to help me by spawning the Capital Ships. Also thanks go too Mogul Velaio for coming up with the idea.

Maybe make it such that one can only attack the cap ship AFTER it enters Grey Space, since you would get standing penalty for destroying high-standing aggressors (e.g. you get itani standing penalty for destroying a high-itani standing serco attacking your capship in Divinia).

This idea seems to just result in nearly the same issue as the last cap-ship fight. Namely, the Itani ship has to jump through so many sectors to even get to grey space.

Short of being able to have them all spawn in the same system before flying into B8, there are always going to be some problems with the sheer distances they have to travel.

Fin is right.

The battle should start when the Itani Capship hits Pelatus (Since the Edras --> Jallik wormhole is Itani Guarded as well)
I'm sure the other capships would already be in Sedina B8 by that point.

Here's a proposal for the Devs (Which I will suggest in SUGGESTIONS as well) How about the Itani Capship spawns in Divinia instead of Itan, and how about the ships gather in Odia somewhere instead of Sedina B-8? You can write it into the storyline that the capital ships want to patrol Odia to reduce the pirate presence. (Or something).

Well I think the long distance the Itani cap ship has to travel will help handy cap the Itani, thus making the fight more fair.

Also thanks to large donations last week I will again be serving as a merc to either side but my price will be 50% lower this time. I will work for your nation (Serco or Itani) for the low price of 500k.

First come first serve. Or we can start a bid war I'm not picky.

Borb, you must have been UIT in a past life.

I disagree with the idea of spawning Sola any where other than Itan. Its just the way it goes, besides isn't that why the Serco have the Uber Prom?

BTW anyone out there want to put together a site dedicated to the Capital ship battles.

I disagree, Borb... the long Itani route is a blessing in disguise for the 'pals in blue'..

By the time the Sola joined the battle last time, the Protaris and Zelor were already heavily engaged with each other.. meanwhile, the Sola was at or near full health, IIRC..

Given the frequency of storms in Jallik, the blue ship should spawn in Divinia indeed.

Jes, HC's point is most relevant. The standing exploit in attacking cap ships in nation space is well known now. You just need to kill two exploiters to become KOS from a POS status.

On top of that, it was the 60+ ships in B8 that was so fun (even with the lag). This messy action did look like a real combat. We'd lose that with the new rules.

Last: waiting time is part of any battle. It just helps increasing the pressure on fighters. 1h30 was a bit long; to reduce it, if the ships spawn twice in a row, we could play with the blue ship of the first wave and the red and gold of the second wave.

...I realize that dev tweaks on cap-ship spawning is not to be expected at this point, but it seems like a lot of these problems would be solved if each nation's ship could be spawned separately..

I would first like to thanks everyone for participating in the last battle and for your interest in the up coming battle.

I was going to plan this event the same was as the last one, but Mogul Velaio rightly, expressed concerned that having the same battle every week would get old fast. I’ve been bored of CtC the past 3 weeks as all of you are. The regular cap ship battles are fun but 3 times a day is a little much for anyone. I originally planned the cap ship battles to add some excitement to the game and for all of us to have a little fun.

I like Sun Tzu’s suggestion for spawning 2 sets of cap ships at different times. That would considerable cut down on the time it takes for us to begin the battle. Let’s keep that for the next battle though.

I did make one major miscalculation though during the last battle. I asked the UIT and Serco to stop their ships in Latos before jumping to B8. The ships were too close and started firing on each other. Instead of letting both ships jump to B8 at the same time I should have asked that only one ship jump to B8. It was impossible for me to know that both ships would again start attacking each other. I won’t let that happen again.

And as for your comment thurisaz, I was not aware that the UIT and Serco cap ships damaged each other significantly during their brief fight. Please correct me if I’m wrong. The Itani ship did take heavy damage before reaching B8 but was healed enroute.

If we wait to battle when the cap ships enter grey space, that will give the Itani a huge advantage. They could easily attack the UIT and Serco ships when they enter grey space. And the Itani cap ship would still be in Itani space when both of the other ships are destroyed. Yes, they would have to deal with a combined UIT and Serco force when the entered grey space. But they would have already won.

We could stop all cap ships before they enter grey space. But we would have the same time issue. It would take about 45min before the battle would start compared to the 1.5 hours when it started yesterday.

I would like to make this as fair as possible to all nations though.

I'm thinking of asking Shepa to fix any DEFENDER who loses faction though. Since its probally impossible to know everyones current faction before the event. I'm going suggest reseting the faction to +600. If you had a higher faction standing you can bot or trade for the rest.

I want to make this very clear. I am coordinating this event with Sherpa. He’s a guide not a developer. He can basically only spawn the cap ships. He can’t heal or warp one. I’m planning this event with the current limits on what a guide can do and I’m limited to the current cap ship and the current faction system. All suggestion are welcome but please keep that in mind.

Keep making suggestion though. Remember I want to make this as fair as possible for each side.

I'm really not liking this idea. I remember yodaofborg exploiting a rule loophole last time by attacking UIT pilots outside Sedina B8, since the only prohibition was attacking the capship itself.

If we're asking for pilots to "invade" enemy territory to try and destroy each capship as quickly as possible, I can easily see the defenders launching a preemptive sweep of their systems PRIOR to the capships' appearance; depending on the effectiveness/size of these sweeps, many attackers will get frustrated. Not to mention someone who's not interested in the battle could get attacked and killed simply because he happens to be in another's nation sector when the defenders choose to launch their preemptive defense.
Not only that, but if an attacker successfully defends himself from such an attack by killing some defenders in his own territory he will quickly become KOS, which will seriously hinder his continuous operation within hostile territory.

Conversely, attackers could swamp the capships' home sectors minutes prior to their appearance and wait it out. Since one can easily see in-game which nation has the fewest players online, it will become obvious which capship to strike at first. If this fight involved numbers like those of the previous one (where the Serco were about half of UIT, and UIT about 4/5 of Itani) one can see both the UIT and Itani swamping and overwhelming the fewer Serco defenders; numbers would play a bigger part in this battle than last time.

I sincerely believe more tought should be put in these battles to work the kinks out, and thus they should only occur once every two weeks at the most frequent; that will also give time for players who lose a lot of cash in them to recover it, and will help avoid people from getting jaded towards them, like they are jaded towards CTC now.

Serco may have been out numbered but they did have almost every serco in-game helping out at one point. There were at the start more serco then UIT in B-8 at the start of the last war.

Yoda from what he has told me only killed if people would not pay him. It's not that hard to pay off some pirate. I do it all the time. 20k is not that much.

As for preemptive sweeps, why not? It's war after all, it gives the defending nation more of a readson to be ready on time. Also the it is not hard to home near by, and as for the faction loss, you will not lose it if your POS. (trust me I have station killed many people in my time) Though if your not POS it is some thing of a problem and it should be fixed.

The numbers needed to "swamp" a cap ship sector would be vary large, this would take many away from defending their own cap ship. With 3 nations going at it that is not wise as you never know if the 3 swing nation is gonna decide to hit you.

All that is needed is proper planning, I know the itani have their own forums an from what I hear they planed things out to a T on said forums. Maybe the UIT (vprs could y'all help here?) should get their own form as should the Serco. (Solra what happened to the old SVG forums?)

Also one thing that help the Itani greatly was skype, 4 of us head guys used it to great effectiveness in coordinating things. I highly recommend getting this free program.

Borb, about the loss of standing when you are POS. It may work with station-killing, I don't know. What I know for sure is that it does not work outside NFZ. I killed a well known standing exploiter in a storm defending our transport and went down from +1000 to +90 Itani. I don't care and I will not hesitate to kill him again if I see him anywhere close to our transport or our Cap Ships. But you can do that only twice before seeing your own strike force on your neck. Which is a bit annoying.

As for the sweeps, my main problem with them is, as I said already, that they may catch people who are simply there at the wrong time, not taking part of the event, and who wouldn't have been attacked at another time. If you've ever been destroyed in the middle of a long trade run mission, you know how annoying and frustrating that is.

The first megabattle, by being (supposedly) contained inside Sedina B8, made it easy for players who didn't want to take part to avoid it. If you launch a Territories-wide event, however, these people lose their ability to choose and could be forced to stay inside the stations for the duration of the event in order to avoid it, and THAT would be unfair, since they have as much right to pursue their goals ingame as those taking part in the capship fight.

Well, the war should go on in grey space, and is going to be well publicized. Hence, on both counts, anyone around should be aware of the danger present.
