Disable non-local missions by default; helps newbs.
Being able to see non-local missions, especially in space, is useful.
HOWEVER, newbies are too stupid to be given this power from the get-go. They have been constantly whining about how missions don't work ever since it was implemented, because they don't understand that they have to dock and be at the correct station.
So, the simple solution is to add a checkbox in the mission board to filter out remote missions, and filter them out by default. That way the newbies will only see relevant missions at first, and better realize they need to dock. When they find the checkbox and play with it, they should be able to realize what it does easily enough. This will help them understand.

I disagree. One of the major points to making all missions visible all the time was so that newbs can see that there's more content out there. It just needs to be made a little more obvious that you are only able to accept missions when you're docked in a sector the mission is located at.
Well, the idea behind a checkbox right on the mission board is that they look at the board and see a checkbox and think, "what does this button do?". The text next to it says something like "Show remote missions". They click it, and a bunch of missions pop up that have coordinates on them. They click it again and they go away.
Now they know there are more missions, and are a lot more likely to realize they are non-local missions.

+1 again, good for newbies and vets.
Make it another drop-down box, [ LOCAL | System | Nation | Universe ] (Local as default).
While on that, also make Escort missions have a separated category, since they only make sense as local missions.

I try not to be one of those people who fight change...
But seeing every mission everywhere is annoying... and probably unrealistic as far as a space mission board goes.
I would like to see this as an option, that way I can shut it off unless I need to find a specific mission somewhere.

+1. That would work for me!

+1. A default checkbox makes a lot of sense.
