Feature request: Repair Drone

Mmm, but this design is for something similar to R2D2, which does not weigh 2 tonnes and should be relatively easy to add into the game.
For now, we have repair nanites, which can be only fired at other ship, which is completely unrealistic.
If you can fire nanites on other ship, why can't you release them inside (or outside) the ship you're in ? That's very illogical.
There should be a possibility of fixing Your own ship in-flight. Either by nanites or by a some kind of drone. Perhaps this should be very limited, so it doesn't make the PvP 10 times as long as they are now.
I like this idea, however proper game balancing will be critical to make it work properly and not to make PvP unbearably long.

In order to have it not affect PvP...
1. Make it fairly heavy.
2. Make it targetable with low armor... (100 to 1000)
3. Make the the initial purchase really expensive.
4. Make it expensive to reload.

Give it the appearance of a Fennus Observer (smaller, though, and a bit less hive-like) with 800 armor. 800 armor can withstand a single hit from most energy weapons, but barely.

Five shots, costing 5,000c each to reload. The repair bot would explode after existing for five minutes, so you can have one or two follow you around a bit.
Make it large port, and have it explode when you dock (no switching to a fighter).
Repair at 500-2000 armor/sec, I think. If it's going to last five minutes it's in no rush with ships maxing at 21,000 armor.
Max speed of 50m/s norm, 90m/s turbo.
Repair group members after self is repaired?

Launches like flare from large port only.
Requires more energy the farther it is away.
Ability to remotely destroy with a command (/repairdrone destroy).
/repairdrone repair "Player Name" command.
Repairs with a beam like a mining beam, that slowly sweeps over your ship.

Again, no. Hire someone with a rep gun to fix your ship.
It's not a gun because of realism, it's a gun because of gameplay mechanics, to encourage team play.
This would abolish the need for such, and thus I do not agree with the suggestion. OP or otherwise.

I see no need for a bot for that...
Much more logical would be to change now used repair gun to enable self-repairs, as you must have no target and hold fire for 5 seconds, so instead of shooting a "pellet" it spreads a cloud of nanites.

Good idea. That would completely fix PvP problems.
1. The ship must be completely stopped for 5 seconds
2. The player must hold fire for 5 seconds (together 10 seconds)
3. No repair bot needed, just nanites. (Much easier to implement)

Yeah guys, you would be perfectly right if we had hundreds of players online. For now, let's make the game playable even at the lows with 5 - 10 players on.
