Of Jerks

I'd say the beginning of the end of my enjoyment of this game came when some pirate blew me up after demanding 100,000 credits. Being a 3-day-old character, I did not have this sum. I was meandering through gray space just getting to know the game.

When I voiced my disapproval of said pirate in the public channel, most of you people immediately called me a whiner.

And, almost every night since, when I'd ask a question or make a civilized observation in 100, the same pack of people berates me.

So now I like to just spout abuse at everyone. Because, frankly, I think you all deserve it. This is the worst community I've ever found in a game -- ever. It's got a core of wanna-be l33t gamers who are full of themselves because they've spent years mastering a game that nobody plays. So much so that they don't mind talking down to me.

The bottom line is, I'll abuse a community of jerks however I see fit. I could lose a few fingers and still count the number of decent people I've met in this game on one hand. So, really, the idea that you people shouldn't be harassed and abused is laughable to me.

Cheers,

lawl, the pirate you met is the most decent fella in the game. Pirates are good folk. You're probably a tool, but you're right, most of the people who play this game are carebears and kissasses. The devs are idiots too, so you know, top down.

It is unfortunate that you had an unpleasant experience while you were learning the game. At the present time, various warnings about gray-space are presented during the tutorial process, but in the next iteration of the new-player experience we will probably prevent newer people from even going there at all. It is a place occupied by pirates, who shake down and/or kill other players, and that (being a generally dangerous area to travel) is the intended purpose of grayspace. Most of the territory of the game is not gray, specifically to help new players become acquainted with the gameplay in a somewhat-safer environment, and to give people less combative play options.

It is also troublesome to hear that you had a negative experience with our player base, who are usually pretty helpful, at least when compared to most combative-game online communities. If you had a specific case of repeated abuse, you could have reported it to our administrative staff, via the Support Ticket System. We do respond to abuse complaints.

However, the fact that you had a bad experience does not give you license to abuse others however you see fit. In general, we try to be pretty understanding about the shifting moods of individuals and the nature of being on the internet; we try to take each case of reported abuse as it comes. However, if you give us no other recourse, we will hinder your ability to talk to other players, or connect to the game at all.
